Chapter 1
| Kain sat on a roof top, his silvery ponytail hanging over his left
shoulder. He was so much more than a man in many ways. He could hear a
mouse in the alley below him, see a crow perched on a roof a mile away
and most importantly smell the blood running warm through someone’s body.
Yet in his power he felt emptier than he ever had as a man. This “gift”
he had been given unwillingly had indeed changed his life or unlife as
the case may be.
As he thought to himself Kain heard footsteps on the cobbled road below. Peeking over the edge he saw an elderly man running from a group of thugs. Kain smiled to himself. This night might turn out to be better than he had thought. He followed the man on the rooftops until he was caught. The thugs clumsily killed the old man with a broad sword through the neck. Now was his chance. Kain leapt onto the first man. His teeth plunged straight into his neck as he fell, drained of blood to the floor. The pounced onto the second man and pinned him to the ground. He drew his claws and gauged the mans eyes out. He laughed, a cruel sadistic laugh as his victim screamed at the top of voice. Kain drank from his still screaming neck and slowly got to his feet. He paced over to the old man. He looked into the eyes, those terrified grey eyes. This was mortal life, he thought. This man lived and he had a power of sorts but ultimately, humans die. Kain had been given more than life, more than mortal power he was free from the shackles of human restrictions. Revelling in his new life he banished all remorse for his former human self. He was no longer human. He was vampire.
Chapter 2
Kain lay in his tomb in the semi-death he fell into during the day.
He could feel everything around him but see nothing.
“So begins the hunt” He arose from his crypt onto the dark streets. He wore a black hooded
cloak on top of his loose, deep red shirt. He had dark trousers that ended
in his large cloven feet. He stood at about 6’8 with broad shoulders. Even
as a human he would have seemed imposing, as a vampire he was terrifying.
He preferred to jump than to walk but he had something special planned
for tonight. He was going to conquer his first village and release his
true self. The villagers already knew there was a vampire in town from
the drained corpses found lying in the street every night but tonight there
would be no one left to find the corpses…
Chapter 3
Kain ran so fast down the road toward the town gates he almost fell
onto his face. He had finished his last house and the town was ablaze.
He reached the gate and made a gigantic leap over the wall. He turned in
a skid to look upon the destruction he had caused. He smiled and wiped
the blood from his cold purple lips. He had fed well tonight, more than
ever before and he had killed more than ever before as well. He turned
his back to walk away to find a place to rest for the night when an arrow
landed between his feet. He twisted his neck to see his opponent. There
stood a man he had seen only once before, a fine example of a human indeed.
His name was Halleck, the town guard. Kain could smell the blood dripping
from him, yet even injured Halleck could pose a threat. Kain ran towards
Halleck with his eyes burning a bright yellow. Halleck jumped from the
wall onto a nearby cliff and slid down onto the path leading into the town.
They stood face to face until Halleck darted to the left and made a sweep
at Kain’s legs with his two handed sword. Kain jumped the blade and kicked
Halleck square in the chest, sending him flying 6ft back. Kain followed
up the attack with a pounce but only hit the earth where Halleck had been.
Halleck had rolled to the side and recovered. He made a quick lunge into
a Kain’s side and cut. Kain snarled and let his true power emerge. He pushed
Halleck to the ground with one cloven foot and lifted him in a strangle
with his hand. Halleck turned from a shade of purple to red to blue. Kain
only let go when he heard Halleck’s heart stop beating. He drunk for the
last time that night from Halleck’s thick muscular neck before walking
into the mountains, and the next town….
