Chapter 1
The battle with the Demon Hash'ak'gik had been strenous and difficult, but Kain had overcome his enemy using the Soul Reaver. As Kain was recovering from his wounds, the spectre, Ariel appeared beofre him. "The Pillar of Balance must be righted Kain, you are the last." Ariel waved her hands and two portals appeared behind her. One lead to Nosgoth Restored, the other--to Nosgoth Damned
Kain raised his powerful frame up before Ariel "What sorcery is this?" Kain's face was filled with confusion. "You are the Keeper of the Pillar of Balance Kain, sacrifice yourself and save Nosgoth in doing so." Kain thought about his choice here--if he sacrificed himself he could save the entire planet...after quite a bit of thought, Kain enter the Portal leading to Nosgoth Damned. "We are Gods, Dark Gods, and it is our duty to thin the herd." Vorador's words echoed in Kain's ears.
There was a brilliant flash of light, and Kain stood at the Pillars of Nosgoth, Ariel was nowhere to be found... the scene was different from the one depeicted in the portal...the pillars were the same as they had always been. Suddenly, Kain heard noise to the south...and voices. Kain was still fairly weak from his battle with Hask'ak'gik' and his magic was low, so Kain produced Havok and Malice, which were fast becoming Kain's favorite weapon's, aside from the Soul Reaver.
Within moments a large group of humans burst through the clearing, Vampire Hunters. Shouts of "There he is!", "The Last!" and "Kill him!" rang thoughout the air. "More vampire hunters? Very well, let us have some fun" Kain mused to himself. Kain became lost in his own pleasure as the lust for blood overtook him. Weaving Havok and Malice through skin and bone as he would a hot knife through butter, Kain though for sure that he had this won. However, from the east, came more opponents, this time--the Armies of Hope lead by King Ottmar himself.
With the arrival of the new enemies, Kain was defeated by sheer force of numbers. he was stripped of his armors and weapons. and forced to kneel as King Ottmar approched him. Kain was infuriated by Ottmar's attack "I saved your daughter from the dollmaker! Why do you attack me?!" kain screamed in Ottmar's face. "My daughter? What are you talking about Vampire?" Ottmar seemed surprised when Kain mentioned his daughter. Kain's mind raced, then he realized what had happened, with his own time-streaming, Kain hadn't saved Ottmar's daghter, and the Battle of The Last Stand where Ottmar had been killed had never taken place. Now Ottmar shared the lust for Vampire blood.
Kain was not sure that he would be able to escape his death this time...then something happened that made kain smile to himself. One of the Knights handed King Ottmar the Soul Reaver....and he became fascinated by the blade beauty. Kain watched with glee as Ottmar reached out to touch Soul Reaver--a fatal mistake. Ottmar accidentally cut himself with the blade, and feeding on Ottmar's own magical energy, destroyed Ottmar. He died in a shower of blood and gore that confused all present, with the eception of Kain. Kain's inate abilites drew Ottmar's blood to him and, fully restored. he leapt for Soul Reaver, tearing the arms of the Knights who held him out of thier sockets. As Kain's hand tightned arund Soul Reaver's hilt, he was already half-transmogrified into Bat Form. Kain fled the Pillars of Nosgoth to find a safe haven while he made his plans. Kain would be back...he would destroy all those who hunted he and his brethern. Ariel, watching all of this unfold from the Spectral Plane, frowned to herself and wondered how Nosgoth's history would be played out with Kain's unexpected descision.
