“Hojo did say to go north,” said the
spiky-haired youth known as Cloud.
“Yeah maybe, but this place ain’t on
no map I ever saw” a large black man called Barret exclaimed.
“Shit! We’re lost aren’t we!?”
“Cid do you EVER stop swearing?” The
strange red beast accompanying them asked.
“Mmmm…No.”
“Come on, calm down,” said Tifa, the
peacemaker of the group “We’ve got a long way to go, Cait Siths asleep,
Vincents on watch and Yuffies just been sick again.”
As soon as she stopped speaking a small
jolt shook them all, waking Cait Sith and causing Yuffie to go green.
Cloud leaned out the window “Hey Vincent
what’s going on?”
“We just ran something over, nothing
important, I’m coming back in, and my watch is over.”
“No Cloud stop, I wish to see if it
is still alive,” Said the red beast, Nanaki.
As he, Cloud and Cid got out they
heard a screech and then a low, raspy voice saying: “I must say you managed
to hurt me a lot Human. But even the most ignorant human should know you
can’t kill a Zephonim by crushing him!” It yelled as it leapt onto Nanaki,
its claws scraping down his back. He leapt up, knocking it back, and into
the buggy. Two shots were heard, then the horrible sound of Vincent morphing
into Chaos. The beast leapt up and ran followed closely by Chaos. In the
dark all they heard was a quiet fluid noise and a scream, as the vampire
died. After Vincent’s return, they set off again.
“So Kain, I see that you have finally
got the courage to face me. I must say I’m ashamed that you thought I,
Raziel, destroyer of souls, could be defeated by such a lacklustre army
as yours.”
“Lacklustre! My dear Raziel, that
is but a small portion of my army, the greater part of my forces are away
to the north fighting the greatest terror the world has ever seen. More
powerful than the Hylden, more dreadful than the mass, he is Sephiroth.
His magic far exceeds mine and his strength makes you look like an ant,
he has the knowledge of all the guardians and their powers within him.
He is like a dark god. And to defeat him, I will need your help.
“Ha!” Raziel laughed at the thought
of the great Kain asking for his help. “You destroyed me, sent my brothers
to kill me and now you want my help?!”
“I do not want your help Raziel I need
it.”
“ I care not for your petty war, when
this Sephiroth has destroyed you I will be content and will go to my rest.”
“But you won’t, he’ll make sure of that.
He’ll find a way to keep you in this realm and kill you time and again,
and every time, he’ll love it. I kill for blood, he kills for fun.”
“ No Kain, you KILLED for blood, he
KILLS for fun” Raziel said as he used the soul reaver to destroy Kains
body. Slowly, leisurely slashing it back and forth across Kains chest until
Raziels vengeance was fulfilled. Kains soul rose out of his body and so
Raziel devoured it. As soon as he closed his cowl, Raziel felt the change
coming on again. Thanks to Kains bat flight ability, Raziel was starting
to feel the growth of bone high on his back. The formation of nerves as
they burrowed through the flaps of tissue that, to his mind, were beyond
redemption was painful but he would do anything to regain the power of
flight. The bones started to push up through the tissue, forming a new
wing structure that seemed to reinforce Raziels very point in being but
with them came one other thing, a voice, hauntingly familiar.
“KAIN!!!!!”
“You mean to tell me we’re out
of fuel in a land populated by giant spiders, creatures that summon blood
out of your body to drink and things that look like Minotaurs?! Does the
phrase “Oh shit!” Mean anything to you?”
“Cid it’s not that bad, the creatures
seemed to be getting fewer and fewer as we went north so maybe we’re almost
clear of them.”
“Yeah but they’re getting a hell of
a lot harder to kill which means we need to use magic and I’m all out of
Ethers” muttered Cloud.
“Maybe we’ll find a town where we can
rest and…”
“KAIN!!!!!”
As they heard the cry they all turned
to look in the direction it came from but there was just a hill there.
“Maybe there’s a town inside that hill”
suggested Tifa.
“Mebbe, but mebbe there’s some insane
vampire thing in there, just waiting to chop off our heads.”
“Barret don’t be so melodramatic,” Clouds
patience was wearing thin, “and sure you’ve got a point but its either
that or we sleep in the buggy.”
They turned to look round at the buggy
and saw it sinking into the ground. As they ran over to see what had happened
Cloud found a note.
“Wassit say, wassit say,” Barret was
saying.
“Thank you for the carriage, your friends
the Melchiahim P. S. we will return soon.”
As soon as Cloud finished reading the
note the ground erupted around them and they found themselves surrounded
by vampires.
“At least they aren’t Minotaurs!” Shouted
Cloud.
“Oh whoopee” muttered Cid sarcastically.
“Alright who wants some?” Barret
was isolated from the group but he seemed to be doing well enough, as another
vampire charged him and got it’s head blown off. But at each step the vampires
were closing and Barrets ammo was running down. Just as the first vampire
tried to chop off his head using its mutated claw, Barret decided to use
his trump card.
“Aw shit man Clouds gonna be SOOO pissed
when he finds out I’m doing this” He whispered to himself as Bahamut ZERO
blew a hole in the enemy front line.
Cloud and the others slowly fought
their way over to Barret decapitating one Vamp while impaling another.
Vincent took another hit and morphed to Chaos. From then the slaughter
increased. Vampire after vampire fell before their weapons until Tifa and
Yuffie were both Koed. Then the vampires gained the upper hand and continued
to keep it until only Cloud Cid and Nanaki remained. As Cloud finally reached
breaking point he screamed and summoned the Ultimate End, Knights Of The
Round. All of a sudden the battlefield was empty save for the eight friends.
Five minutes later after they were all
fully healed they were all criticising Clouds decision to waste so much
magic power with one blast.
“Shit man you didn’t have to do THAT
Cloud you scared the shit out of me” Cid shouted.
“Yeah man me too” Barret contributed.
“I was rather surprised myself,” Nanaki
said calmly.
“I wasn’t, I was already STUNNED. Geddit?”
said Yuffie. Everyone turned and looked at her.” What!? I was just trying
to lighten the mood,” she added grouchily.
“Well you failed” responded Cait Sith
“ but noone can blame you for try…”
As lightning struck down on the tree
near the ravine that they were under, setting it on fire a branch toppled
down to burn a few metres away. A figure seemed to fly over the ravine
and through the flames, tendrils licking at his heels. As he landed on
the ground after his flight his shadow fell across the eight friends and
he spoke to them, and this is what he said:
“Greetings to you all. I am Raziel”.
