Chapter 4
| Samantha led the three vampires down a dark hallway into a huge library.
She gently knocked on the door.
"Mr. Trin?" A man sitting at a table jerked his head up. His blonde hair shone in the candlelight that he was working by. "Yes?" he squinted his eyes, then smiled. "Ahh... Samantha.... Hello.... How are you?" "Fine... Thanks...." As Samantha and Kauvin engaged in conversation, Kain surveyed their surroundings. Books of just about every subject were crammed into the shelves. Even though it was too dark to tell what they were about, Kain guessed that it dealt something with killing vampires or something along those lines. The room was gargantuan, with a stair case at the back of the room and a chandelier without candles hung from the center. All of the room was made of a dark-brown wood and had been varnished. Raziel, on the other hand was listening intently on the two human's conversation. Raziana sat down and started to twiddle her claws. Finally, Samantha quit talking. "Kauvin... Please don't be alarmed, but I've brought three um.....people with me... They wish to ask you some Questions... Is that okay?" Kauvin nodded. "Yes...." "All right, but relax.... Because-" Kain took off the cloak. He felt smothered and trapped in the cape. Kauvin cried out and nearly fell back out of his chair. Kain didn't even pay attention, but Raziel took of his cloak and, after Kauvin scrambled under his table, asked Samantha. "How are we supposed to ask this man something whenever he refuses to come out from under his table?" Samantha looked down. "Well.... I can't blame him.... You guys probably scared the living daylights out of him...." Raziana hopped up, yanking the cloak off. "Whew! Man! Am I glad to be out of that thing! Hey! Where's Kauvin?" Samantha shook her head in exasperation and pointed to the table. "He's under the table...." "Why?" inquired Raziana. "Because two vampires just now scared him half to death....." Raziana crossed her arms and glared at Raziel and Kain. Raziel shrugged while Kain ignored Raziana. "You two really need to work on your people skills...," muttered Samantha. "We're not social vampires....," Kain retorted sharply. For a few split seconds, Raziana thought that Samantha might hide under the table as well. Samantha's expression had been pure terror, but one glance at Raziana, and Samantha managed to keep from running off. Samantha walked around to the table and crouched down. "Kauvin.....?" she asked softly. "KEEP THOSE CREATURES AWAY FROM ME!!!!" was the reply. Samantha chewed on her bottom lip. "Look.... I know that the two adult vampires are really scary looking, but there's this little girl vampire who isn't mean.... Would you at least talk to her?" Raziel and Kain had to suppress laughs. Kauvin slowly crawled out from under the table. Raziana scratched her head. "Wait a minute.... Have we ever met before?" she asked, puzzled. Kauvin froze and turned around even slower. "R-Raziana?" he gasped. Raziana took a step back. "I don't think we've met..... Have we?" Kauvin smoothed back his blonde hair, which was well-kept. "It's me... You know, Kauvin? The one who always used to tease you about your ears...." Raziana's eyes widened in recognition. "Kauvin! You're alive! But I thought you'd drowned!" Kauvin shook his head, apparently forgetting the fact that one vampire and a soul-eating "vampire" were watching him peculiarly. "Nope... I knew how to swim...." Kain brushed his hair back. "We came here to ask you some questions....," he said sternly, stepping forward. Kauvin blanched white again and it looked like he might dive under the desk again, but he managed to stutter out, "A-a-about-t-t w-wh-wh-what?" "The Illuminations....," replied Raziel. Kauvin staggered back. "No! Not them! Anything but them!" Raziana sat on the desk. "Relax.... We need to know this stuff so that we can plan a counterattack..." Kauvin became so weak that he had to sit back down. "Wh-what? They're alive? And here?" Raziel nodded. "Yes.... And we need your knowledge of them to defeat them...." "What about Kristaufer?" asked Kauvin weakly. Kain stared Kauvin directly in the eyes. "He's alive and in this time era as well..." "Time era?" asked Kauvin. Raziel stepped in front of Kain. "Raziana has transported the three of us to your time, why, I do not know..." Kauvin combed a lock of hair, a nervous habit of his. "Uh... Are you.....Raziel?" he asked Raziel. Raziel nodded slowly. Kauvin turned to Raziana. "You allow him to even be near you?" he asked Raziana incredulously. "After he abandoned you and Ailoryana?!" Raziana shrugged and studied the ceiling. "Well, uh..... It wasn't my choice.... I was forced to be with these two...." Kain elbowed Raziel. "A little rejection, eh?" he murmured. Raziel didn't answer, he merely glanced away. Kain was surprised to see Raziel had no counter for Kain's stinging words. Kauvin glared heatedly at Raziel, but talked to Raziana softer. "Have you forgiven him?" he inquired. Raziana looked to Raziel and Kain and saw the two staring at her, Raziel's stare more intense. "Uhhhhh.... Umm, well, uh, sorta...," Raziana said, shrugging with an uncertain grin. She then threw her hands up. "JEEZ!!! When did this all of a sudden become a interrogation of me?!" Kauvin shot Raziel severe frown and then turned his gaze on Raziana. "Since that-that-that thing abandoned you and Ailoryana!!" Kauvin emphasized "thing" with a shudder of revulsion. Raziel had heard enough. "Since when did you become a god?! Judging others as though they were nothing!" Kauvin suddenly became very bold. He stepped towards Raziel as though to try and intimidate the fallen lieutenant. Raziel seemingly accepted the challenge and took a step towards Kauvin. Raziana feared that a fight would break out. Desperately, she turned to Kain for help. "Do something!" she howled, jumping up and down. "What?" asked Kain lightly, watching the two, who were now circling each other. "Anything!!" replied Raziana frantically. Kain grinned in a sinister way and picked up a nearby sword. "Here! Catch!" he said, tossing the sword to Kauvin. Kain then turned to Raziana. "Now the odds are even..," he said. "Why me?" Raziana asked nobody in particular. "Why me?! Of all the accursed vampires, why poor, little me?!!" Kauvin and Raziel continued to throw insults to each other. "Demonic scum! You abandoned your own fledglings!" snapped Kauvin. "You are nobody to accuse me of anything, mere mortal! I could not do anything!" Raziel retorted sharply. Raziel swung Soul Reaver lethally and knocked Kauvin's sword away. Raziel then raised the sword back as though he was going to strike Kauvin. "Dad! No!" screamed Raziana, dashing forward. Kain made no move to stop her. If she wanted to play heroine, who was he to interfere? Raziel brought Soul Reaver down........onto Raziana. The glowing blade bit deeply into Raziana's back, slicing her shirt and cutting off her sash. Blood splattered out and stained the floor. Raziana pitched forward, Kauvin catching her before she hit the floor. Raziel staggered back. No....., he thought. I've killed her! NO!! Kain actually seemed surprised. "Well.... I didn't think you had it in you..." "NO!!! RAZIANA!!!" Raziel howled, kneeling down. "So... You kill your own daughter? Fine then... Have her corpse so that you can enjoy seeing her dead..." Raziel was too stunned to say anything back. He gently picked up Raziana. "Where's a bedroom?" he asked Kauvin. "Upstairs, down the hallway, last door to your right.....," Kauvin grumbled angrily. * Kain followed Raziel to the bedroom. A bed and a dresser were the only large things in the room. A small table beside the bed held a candle, which was currently unlit. Raziel laid Raziana on the bed. "Go away....," he ordered Kain. "Go away?" hissed Kain. "To where? Outside? Where I will almost surely be killed? I think not... I will stay here if I wish...." Raziel jumped up and started to strike Kain, but just then, a young woman walked in. Her blonde hair shone in the dim light. She let out a tiny squeal and nearly dropped the candle she was holding. "Eek! Oh! I mean, I'm very sorry! Uh....here...," she said, thrusting the candle onto the table. "My name's Jessica... My husband, Kauvin, told me to bring some light up here.... I'll leave now..." Jessica dashed out the doorway, slamming the door behind her. Raziana moved slightly with a soft moan. "Unh.... Ra-Raziel? Kain?" Raziel was at Raziana's side in an instant. "Raziana? I-I'm sorry...." Raziana then remembered. Raziel had slashed her with Soul Reaver. "Oog....Uh... Yeah... It's all right......," she mumbled. Kain picked up Raziana's sash, which was now a brown color. "Here...," he said, tossing it on Raziana. Raziana painfully sat up. Raziel steadied her as she retied the sash on. She then noticed that it had changed colors. "Hey....what...happened?" she asked softly. Moebius's ghost appeared in the dark room. "When Soul Reaver struck the cloth, it blanched the fabric a lighter color, in this case, brown....," he answered. Raziana stared at Raziel, then looked at Kain. She managed a smirk and asked, "I bet you find this funny, don't you?" Kain slightly nodded. "Yes... Hilarious...," he replied sarcastically. Raziana flopped back down on the bed. "Yech.. I feel like I've been run over by a cart...!" Moebius suppressed a chuckle. "You would have been better off if you had been run over by a cart...." Raziana jerked back up. She jerked her middle claw across her throat, making a cutting sound. "Shut up!!" she hissed. Moebius glared at Raziana. "I see you are better..." Raziana hopped up. "Yeah! Because I'm a vampire! I heal quickly..." "Too bad...," muttered Kain. "I was hoping I would get some peace and quiet for at least a day or two...." Moebius turned to Kain. "If you are already annoyed with her, you may be committing suicide by the time this little adventure is over.." Kain frowned at Moebius, but didn't say anything. Raziel ignored the two the entire time. Instead, he asked Raziana, "Are you sure you're okay?" Raziana turned around. "Uh... Yeah.. Thankfully, I used a little bit of magic to sew my shirt back.... So, now I'm fine!" Raziel nodded. "Good... You do know that I never meant to harm you on purpose..?" Raziana opened then folded her wings. "Umm... Yeah... I guess I knew that..." Raziana then turned to Moebius. "What do you want?" Moebius's lips curled into an evil grin. "Mostly to see you in agony..," he answered. "But also to remind you of you plan... Remember?" Raziana frowned. "Wait.. How'd you know about what I'm planning on doing?" Moebius continued to grin. "Nupraptor read your mind while you were unconscious..... He then reported to us.." Raziana slammed her fist down onto the bed. "He-ey!! That's no fair!" Moebius shrugged. "All's fair in love and war...," Moebius answered. Raziana looked at Moebius quizzically. "I truly hope that this is war.." Moebius grimaced in disgust. "Me too.. If this is love, I'll kill myself....." Kain leaned against the wall. "Well, whenever you two are through babbling, tell me, because I would like to get on with attacking Kristaufer's forces...," he hissed. Raziana whipped around and smirked coldly. "All right, mister know-it-all... You can go get killed! I think Ariel would like that, since balance would be restored.." With that, Raziana started to storm off, but Kain jerked forward and grabbed Raziana's shoulder. He yanked her around. "Since when did you become my master?! Telling me what to do and what not to do!" he snarled. Raziel jumped up and shoved Kain in the wall as hard as he could. Kain staggered back and hit the wall. He quickly retaliated by hitting Raziel in the side of the head, causing Raziel to trip over and land on the floor. "You may think that you're more powerful than me, but I would advise against testing my patience...," he warned. Raziel cast Kain a hot glare, but Raziana performed a mock salute. "Aye aye, sir!" she said sharply. Kain started to say something, but simply sighed in angered exasperation and walked over to the only window in the room. The window was crusted in dust, but Kain could see out of it well enough to suit him. Kain glared sourly at the humans in his sight. "Boy... If looks could kill...," Raziana said, walking up beside Kain. Kain jerked his gaze down, then looked back through the window. Suddenly, Kain saw the image of what seemed to be a young woman's face flash on the window before disappearing just a quickly. Kain cried out and jerked back. Raziana wheeled around, her face contorted in confusion. "What?!" she shrieked. "What?! What is it!?" Kain paused and stared at Raziana. "You didn't see...her?" he asked almost shakily. Raziana raised an eyebrow and looked at the window. She scratched a bit of the dust off with her middle, right claw, then turned around. "Uh... No.... Who?" "Her...," Kain retorted sharply. Raziana still seemed confused. She turned to Raziel and Moebius. "Did either of you see what Kain's talking about?" The two shook their heads. Moebius snickered loudly. "Perhaps Kain is hallucinating...," he sneered. Kain shook his head and turned back to the window. It was as normal as could be, in all it's dusty glory. Kain looked away. Maybe it had been his eyes playing tricks on him... DISCLAIMER: Raziel, Kain, Nosgoth, etc. belong to Eidos, Crystal
