Past of Nosgoth, Future of Raziel

Authors note: this story is something I put together while thinking about certain aspects of the first game. You will notice characters from both games in this story. I hope you all enjoy it!

Chapter 1: The Dark Father

Kain pulled the massive gray stone block from the entrance releasing a large cloud of dust. Entering Kain began to smile; this was the fabled Tomb of the Sarafan. His smile grew wider as he found the tomb that he desired, Malek’s. With the protectors coffin in his possession Kain left the Tomb knowing that he would return in the future… Carrying the casket of Malek, Kain made his way to his sanctuary, the Pillars.
Kain placed the armor of Malek upon a freshly slain warrior named Jestal, but people who had known Jestal would not recognize him now for Kain had replaced his head with Vorador’s. After dressing the corpse Kain placed it upon a large stone alter ornamented with demons and angels with a large Soul Reaver carved in the center. Finally Kain placed Malek’s legendary spear upon the altar at the corpse’s right.
“Ich agh shanta illshadin halliqua entarentia Malek I call for your abilities in combat!” yelled Kain “Ish ela shinta ishladine hellitha entarentia Vorador I call upon your soul to bless this body!” With this said Kain drew a twisted dagger from his belt, slit his wrist and fed the reanimated corpse his blood.
With a scream that would make a mortal man die of fright as the reanimated corpse arose from the altar the eyes dancing with an unnatural red glow.
“Where am I? What is this form that I have come to inhabit? Kain, is that you?”
“Yes, Vorador, it is I, Kain, your former student and present father.”
 “Father?”
“In a sense, yes. Come with me I have much to tell you.”

Chapter 2: Kain’s 1st Child

As day led into night and Kain woke to the world around him Vorador was busy with practice, slashing, dodging, thrusting, side stepping, and stabbing.
 “Vorador, shall we?”
With this said the two vampires began to spar. Circling clockwise Kain struck first with a quick slash to the midsection. Vorador dodged lithely out of the way and countered with a high arcing slash of his staff.
“You are still in superb shape, Vorador.” Kain stated as he slashed at his “child”.
*   *   *
With their sparring done Kain and Vorador retreated to the comfort of Kain’s mansion set deep into the mountains of Nosgoth. They then proceeded to search the area for humans on which to feed.
*   *   *
The next day Kain left Vorador to search for the fabled Book of Unlife. Said to be written by the greatest necromancers of all times this book contained everything pertaining to life and death. The most logical place would be the Pillar of Death.

Chapter 3:  Search for the Book

At the base of the Pillar Kain began to dig, his claws shredding through the rock and dirt as if it were not even there. Then his claws struck a large solid wood box with a picture of the Angel of Death upon the top. Could this be it? The legendary book? Kain’s mind raced with the possibilities such a find would offer. Finally Kain got the box out of the ground and the lid opened with a hiss of compressed air. Kain deeply inhaled this with a look of reminiscence on his face. Then looked in the box and found the prize he was after, the Book of Unlife and a note. Written in the neat and orderly print of Mortanius the Necromancer and, by the taste of it, his own blood was a letter.

So you have found this Book at last Kain. And what shall you do with this? Raise an army young vampire? Hah, not with out my body Kain, not with out my mind. You shall never win, Kain, that is not how this game is to be played, vampire.

Some how maintaining his composure, Kain opened the book to find another letter, this one from Mobius.

If you want need what you want, then you want what I have and you have

“What I want, Kain,” came a voice behind him.
“Mobius, what are you doing here?” And where did you come from?
“Kain, I have come to aid you, I know what you need to. I told Mortanius to write that letter, you see, I told him to bury the box and the book here bellow his Pillar, then I killed him. What you don’t believe me? I killed him as I could you. But I choose to spare you, Kain. You must make the new race of vampires.”
 “How?”
 “Open, and read.”
So he did, and Mobius told Kain how to raise the dead Sarafan priests and turn them from the light. How he could use them to progress the sickness of Nosgoth. How he could be a God, a living legend upon the face of Nosgoth. But he warned Kain that one of his “children” would betray him…
Chapter: 4 – The Creation

Now, in the Sarafan Tomb again Kain opened the casket of Raziel, the first man killed by Vorador. Reading from the book Kain bellowed:
“Ancient evils of this world. Reanimate this corpse with the unlife I breathe into it!” with the words still hanging in the air Kain exhaled a large breath into the well-preserved corpses lungs. Then within seconds the chest cavity began to rise and fall as the new vampire was thrown into existence. An earsplitting scream escaped its open mouth as his eyes began to burn with a faint white glow.
Kain watched all of this with an impassive look on his face. When it was over he spoke to him “Raziel, you are the first. You are my reborn son. Come take your place at my side.”

That night Kain went to speak to Vorador.
“You shall be the one whom I keep in the shadows, master.”
“Why, Kain? Do you not like your recreation of me? Am I so changed in my physique that it is repulsive?”
“No master, I just do not wish for my children to know of your existence. It is for their own good. They believe Raziel is the first of my creations that has lived. I want it to remain this way. Come now, let us hunt.”
Later that night Kain and Vorador found a rather well populated village of humans to slay and raise for the first of Vorador’s soldiers.

Chapter: 5 Fountains

This all happened 800 years ago and I am just now learning of it from Kain’s journals and notes he had compiled as a living history report of Nosgoth. Having slain my brothers and chasing my father through Nosgoth itself I had not even heard of this ‘til now. It meant I still had places to go and a vampire older than any other to converse with. I left Kain’s massive stronghold and headed for the Termagant Forest, I would find Vorador’s Mansion and, if I was correct, Vorador himself.
I reached the woods on my third day of travel. Tired and in need of rest I headed towards a cave by the side of the path. As I entered I heard a low voice say.
“Come, drink from us, the Blood of Ages flows so sweet vampire.”
Looking around I realized I had stumbled across one of the blood fountains Kain had mentioned so many times in his journals. As I stepped towards the fountain I was filled with an old desire, that for blood. I drank of it and was restored almost instantly by this fountain. I recall Kain had mentioned the fountains' ability to do this to a normal vampire. Then the low voice spoke again to me.
“Enter these next rooms and heal and fill yourself for you are worthy, Raziel.”
I entered and was amazed by what I found, eight different fountains. But I was amazed more by what was on the front of each fountain, the name of each of my brothers, my father, myself and one unmarked. I stepped towards the fountain with Melchiah’s name upon it. I knelt and drank from the fountain and was filled with a sense of unreality every thing had gotten lighter and darker at the same time. I then proceeded to walk strait through a gate barring the next fountain, Zephon’s, from my reach. Apparently Melchiah’s fountain gave me the ability to phase through objects in both realms. I then drank from Zephon’s fountain and the taste was exquisite. I then tried the smooth walls and found I was able to scale them with no trouble at all. Then I went to the fountain with my name on it and drank deeply of my own blood. A taste I had long since forgotten. Within seconds I began to leak a sticky red-black fluid that covered my body. As it hardened I began to think that this was how I would die. Yet no more then ten minutes later the casing broke and I was free again. I felt instantly an old want and desire that to fly. I bent forward and looked at my reflection and was shocked at the transformation. I was whole again. I then took flight across a chasm to the Rahab fountain. I drank from it and was given quite the shock to find that my hand was missing. But I could still feel it. With little effort I made my hand reappear. So this was his next gift, he must have been very close to his changing period. Next was Dumah’s fountain, unlike the others Dumah’s blood was cold, almost freezing, most likely because he had just recently been re resurrected then killed. Nonetheless I drank it and was greatly rewarded for I no longer hungered for the souls of the dead; I could feed from the living, as a wraith will. My next was Turel’s. Although I hadn’t fought with Turel I had met with his “children” and was interested in what I would receive. As I drank I felt my senses grow sharper and was pleased to find that I had sprouted another set of wings below the first. Last was Kain’s fountain. It’s blood steaming with the next ability and running black under dark red. I drank and was immediately transported to the spectral realm where I found a wraith much larger than most of the others.
“Raziel,” it hissed, “I’ve been waiting for you.”
“What do you want?” I demanded.
“Your soul!” and with that the wraith floated towards me preparing to strike but I lashed out first and caught it with a lightning fast slash to its mid section. Now a new feeling filled me, that of feeding without feeding. I pulled down my cape with my left hand to allow the demons’ soul to freely enter me. But doing this only drew the monster closer. I swung my right hand up and out for another blow but the wraith dodged lithely out of the way and my feeding ended. Using the gift from Rahab I turned myself invisible, the shocked look on the wraiths “face” was more than amusing. I raced around behind it and struck it a blow to the back of its head. Then, finishing my circle I constricted it and consumed it. Using Kain’s new gift I teleported back to the physical realm. I then moved to the last fountain and found that there was something on it. On the rim where three pictures repeated all over the fountain. One was a sphere the other a creature in the sphere the last was the figure impaled in the sphere. I drank of this blood and immediately understood the meaning of the pictures. My force projectile had changed into an impaling sphere that I could use to stop and kill my enemy with one shot.
*   *   *
After leaving the fountains I took flight on my newly repaired wings and headed east towards Vorador’s mansion.

Chapter: 6 The Next to Die

Upon reaching the mansion I noticed that someone had been here recently and was still here now. I entered the mansion and walked down the hallways to the dining room, where it is said that Kain first met Vorador, and was greeted by the back of a chair.
“Vorador!” I yelled down the length of the great hall of the dining room.
“Raziel. So you have come as Kain said you would, you look as if nothing has even changed about you, Raziel.”
“So, you are the great Vorador. Well then shall we get down to business?”
Vorador’s eyes began with a questioning glance but cleared up and his face took on a solemn expression, “well then lets get this over with…” and we began circling each other. I felt the warmth of my constricting band begin to spread and at that moment Vorador slashed with his spear and I dodged left he brought up his palm and shot a red ball of energy at me which I countered with a blast of telekinetic energy.
“It will take more then that to defeat me, Vorador,” I boasted.
In response he charged me with his spear lowered and aimed at my heart. I easily dodged this attack but Vorador spun on his front toe and caught me off guard with a quick thrust to the arm.
“You have injured me, however it shall not be so for long.” With this said my flesh regenerated over my bone and muscle.
We then began to re-circle each other. I began to become dimmer and Vorador’s keen eyes caught this.
“What trickery is this, Raziel? Are you such a cowardly phantom that you will refuse me the ability to see my opponent? Will you not even allow your eldest brother this much?”
“What is this madness you speak. We both know I was first, Vorador.” I yelled. This was an insult to my position. If I wasn’t first Kain would surly have told me by now.
“I am Kain’s dark little secret. His long dead master reanimated with the Destroyers vicious battle abilities.”
With this said I shot my projectile at Vorador. But I knew he spoke the truth. He fought the same way Kain had described Malek’s fighting style, remorseless to his opponent with savage glee in every maneuver. “Now I have you, Vorador. Tell me where I can find Kain so I may end this!”
“Never! I will never tell you!” the spikes began to form. “Release me and finish this with honor, Raziel.” The spikes began to draw blood and Vorador dropped Malek’s spear.
I walked forward and picked up the spear, “you want honor?” I asked holding the spear to his throat? I’ll give you honor.” I said as my sphere’s blades dug deeper then vanished leaving Vorador in a bleeding bump on the floor. “Get up!” I commanded and he did. “Now tell me where Kain is.”
His body still bleeding all over and his soul seeping from his mouth, Vorador told me that Kain was in the mountains next to Dumah’s territory. With this said he then begged me to kill him, for Kain would do much worse then I could. I raised the Soul Reaver to a torch on the wall and ignited the blade in flames then jammed it down his throat. His body rippled with the oncoming destruction and the flames began to sear his lips. His body convulsed as the flames spread down his length, strangely the armor was untouched. When the fire finally reached the end of his feet he exploded sending charred and still burning flesh in all directions. A his escaped the place where his lungs had been seconds before it sounded remotely as if he were saying “frrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeee I aaaammmmmm frrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeee.”  The souls of Malek and Vorador began to circle each other then became one soul, which I consumed. Upon consumption of these two damned souls I was violently thrown across the room into a wall and fell to the floor unconscious.
When I awoke I tested my body to se what damage had been done. And, as far as I could tell, only my right hand and lower left wing were broken. Neither beyond repairs. It would take half an hour here so I switched to the spectral realm where it would take less than fifteen minutes to fix, faster if I kill that wraith I thought. So I approached the beast in the corner and dimmed myself into invisibility. It never saw my energy sphere come at it and when it realized what had happened it was already in me and finishing the repairing process.

Chapter: 7 Return to the Abyss

I walked to the gate. Below was an under water passage that led to the area where I found the water glyph. I phased through the gate and swam to the Casting Place where Kain had ordered me thrown into the Abyss. The bridge had been restored on both Dumah’s side and in the middle. There were people on the Raised areas of earth that were the Casting Place. I leapt upon the bridge closest Dumah’s territory and me. “Humans.” I addressed them, “what are you looking for?” I asked in the kindest voice I could manage.
“Look, there’s one get him!” an important looking human yelled and the human nearest me unleashed a blazing cyclone of fire from the nozzle of his weapon. This immediately ignited my whole being as well as my symbiotic weapon, the Soul Reaver. Normally this act would have sent my soul whirling into the other realm. But, apparently, when I had ignited Vorador and then devoured him I had also become immune to fires touch. What progress I was making in such a short time. Hopefully Kain would offer me more of a challenge then these pathetic humans.
I walked toward the first human and began to laugh as his knees stopped supporting him. He collapsed and began to urinate upon himself. I extended one claw and touched his forehead. Immediately he burst into flames. The sweet smell of burning skin filled the air.

Chapter: 8 Kain is Waiting

I ran down the hall and entered the room. Kain was crouched high up in the workings of this… clock? Yes this clock. I aimed my force projectile at him and fired knocking him to the ground.
“So, my son, you have changed…”

To Be Continued…

Next story will begin after the battle with can and the talk with Mobius.
