The end was here. Every one was dead. The land lay cracked and parched, great gales wined and sang through the petrified forests of the world carving pain into the landscape, forgotten victims lay fossilized in blood and impotent rage. Cities and villages sat empty, haunted by ghosts bound by madness and murder their screams echoed through the land. The sky grew dark as the mushroom clouds appeared in several places across the globe. Huge plumes of dust began to blot out the sun, both the living and the dead hid in their bunkers, trying desperately to escape the end. Walls of fire enveloped the planet, purging the land of all life. Oceans
boiled, mountains crumbled under the terrible strain it was as if the land
was giving up. Landslides swept away whole villages. Tornadoes appeared
in the middle of cities spiraling high into the snow-white air, destroying
everything in their path.
The Elder began to smile. His work was almost complete. He had waited eons for this moment silently planning their downfall, manipulating both sides into starting a war that world destroy them all, and bring about his ascension. The Elder spun the wheel of fate once more, gorging himself on the billions of souls he released. "Once more the wheel turns." Reveling in the destruction, the mass of tentacles began to move towards the surface of the world. From the safety of space, the Hylden general watched through the glyph-lit view screen as his home world was being destroyed, he closed his eyes in remembrance. "Signal the fleet to leave. There’s nothing more we can do here." And with that the swarm of spear-shaped vessels charged up their glyph drives. Reality began to warp around their vessels. Metal rippled as if a pebble had been dropped into a river. Then they were gone, leaving their doomed world for safer waters… But still the general hoped in the back of his mind that someone would survive... Just one… But for now he had graver worries, such as finding a new home world for his displaced people... They watched helplessly as the thirty-foot wall of fire approached them. Fire reflected off their eyes. They stood together ready to die, both man and Vampire alike hugged, kissed, cried. United in death, they stood awaiting the final judgement. As the fire drew closer, a dark mass within grew, and thousands of tentacles grew from the fire. Pure white burning overtook them, blinding each and every one. Some were vaporized on the impact, while others felt their bodies disintegrate, suffering unimaginable pain. Green orbs of energy rose from the ashes drawn towards the mass-driven fire... The purifying light washed over the globe. In the aftermath, black-bodied victims stumbled forward burnt and dazed. Their molecules barely holding them together. They each fell to dust one by one, dropping and burning as they fell, their faces charred to the bone, eye sockets melted into black pits. Ash and lava mixed with vaporized blood. Atop a mountain stood a man still burning, his body blackened and blistering
with radioactive fire, yet he lived. His yellow eyes shone through the
smoke. He tried to ignore the smell of burning flesh, and he raised the
Reaver once more. His body was surrounded in a white light. He began to
rise high into the air, his body trailed fire behind him as he flew towards
his quarry. Kain could feel the air push against him, as he flew towards
the mass that was the Elder... He was ready for the last battle.
"Hheheheeh. So, Kain, you and your kind thought you had escaped your fate. You should know now that fate cannot be denied. I am God." "God would not allow this to happen, fiend. You will pay for your genocide in blood. I now possess the power to destroy you." "Really, Kain, how fitting that both man and Vampire should die together. Ahahahah. Both sides sought control of Nosgoth. How ironic, they thought I was the author of their destruction, when it was they that brought about their own end. Even those accursed Hylden had the intelligence to leave." "Shut up imposter. Prepare for oblivion." The Elder grew larger now. His malformed body pulsated and grew to monstrous proportions. Millions of eyes lined his vile carcass. Tentacles grew and hugged the mountains until the breaking point. Kain could feel the world beginning to crack apart. As oceans fell into the cracks in the crust, boiling magma seeped to the surface, filling the gaps. A great black blanket of stars could be seen overhead, but one enemy remained. The Elder.... Kain hovered momentarily in the air, his red sash flowing in the air. He opened his fangs letting out a roar. He began to speed towards the Elder, not knowing weather this attack would do anything. But a voice within him spoke, Raziels. "I have summoned all the fallen souls of every Vampire who ever died. Trust in the Reaver." Kain closed his eyes as he felt himself propelling through flesh and fat. Kain could hear a heart beating.... This must be the place: his core… A beam of energy tunneled deep into the Elder as it carved its way through miles of dark flesh, piercing its heart, until it continued to the other side. The Elder began to bleed, oceans of blood flooded over his leprous form. "You cannot stop the wheel. You cannot stop destiny. The univverrrsee is mine. You canttttttttttttttttt.” The Elder began to fall apart as was the world around him. He felt his gargantuan consciousness steadily begin to be erased as the Reaver devoured his soul. Memories of the Elder’s life flashed before him. He remembered an image of himself, a mindless mass of flesh hurtling through the stars, his mission to find life on another world. Then darkness filled his soul. Everything went black and Kain lost all sense of time and consciousness. The sphere imploded, leaving nothing behind. The magic field of the world began to dissipate into the ether, leaving the twin suns blazing alone in the sea of stars. Kain opened his eyes and looked around him. His body was frozen solid, joints stiff. He felt no pain. Weightless and alone in space, he surveyed his new home. The last Vampire and Scion of balance held onto the Reaver tighter. He could see stars, planets, tiny specks of light set in a three dimensional ocean... He drifted into a deep sleep, sustained by obligation. His body grew
smaller and smaller as he entered the gravity well of an unknown vortex...
Kain let fate lead him now. His job was done. Nosgoth was saved, and he
was the last to remain...
PROLOGUE
Kain awoke to find himself on a hard metal floor. Green lights dazzled vaguely in front of him, and as he came to, he was surrounded by several Hylden. A tall Hylden dressed in a black suit and a purple robe walked toward the fallen Scion. "So you’ve finally woken, Kain. Welcome aboard the Synukain, our humble ship. I hope you didn’t catch a cold out there." Kain raised his head. "Where are we headed?" "Earth my friend, our new home! Come vampire, we have a world to conquer!"
