A horde of Turelim suddenly start up the stairs.
CUTSCENE
Raziel walks over to them and
launches his new ability at them. They retreat amidst falling debris.
The next puzzle is to get out of the Audience
Chamber. The way you came is blocked by the enraged Turelim.
It will not take them long to regroup and charge into the throne room a
second time. The only way out is through the triangular skylight.
Assemble pieces of the collapsed columns into a stair, and jump.
As Raziel pulls himself up, he sees (faintly)
a rusted forest to the east. At least a dozen great furnaces once
stood, now all but one lies in ruins. Most have been consumed by
their own fires. The last standing furnace still glows with an eery
light, smoke still billowed in a faint trail upwards into the sky.
In between Raziel and this furnace lies a great desert.
Leap off the tiers of the Palace of the Sorceror towards that desert.
Climb down the mountain of barren rock. Pathetic cacti grow here
and there, but the land is waste. Within the sand dunes and angry
storms dwell a blood starved tribe of Melchahim.
Raziel must learn how to move over and around
the sand dunes. It's very easy to get an avalanche of sand going,
half burying Raziel. Worse, once Raziel starts to get the hang of
moving across this wasteland, Melchahim start emerging. Within sight
of the furnace's gates, a small tornado arises from the sand. The
Melchahim retreat under the sand. Raziel can't follow them and still
maintain his course. Steering clear from the eye of the storm, keep
moving towards the last extant furnace.
Raziel is confronted by large rusted pipes,
gas feeds to a complex network of furnaces. The drawbridge has been
destroyed as has every scrap of flammable material long ago been harvested.
The feed pipes, three in all, block entrance to the furnace. Each
is taller than Raziel can jump.
This block puzzle is the most complex in either
game. Find the first batch of blocks, there are eight. Assemble
them in a staircase but not only for Raziel to walk onto the platform at
the top of the pipe, but to shove one of the blocks onto the other side.
The second batch of blocks is a repeat of
the first except this time Raziel must force two blocks over the second
pipe. There are ten to be assembled, not counting the one pushed
from the opposite side. Once over the second pipe, with the two blocks
from the previous two pipes, Raziel need only assemble a point in which
to jump to the barbican of the iron tower. He can only do so if he
has indeed truly completed the other two block puzzles.
When Raziel reaches the landing, he discovers
the portcullis to the furnace is sealed. Use the Amplified Force Projectile
to break it.
CUTSCENE
Raziel walks into the smokestack and looks
it over very carefully.
RAZIEL A feat of engineering taken straight out of the fantasy
journals of the vampire
Master Yiril himself! To create a world of timeless beauty we
built these furnaces to
cover the sky and smother the sun's light. We burned Nosgoth's
trees. Some progress! Without the sun and the forests, humans and
their food died in droves.
In great piles on each side of him lie
the remains of Nosgoth's forests. Further in is an assembly line
moving the dry timber towards a bonfire. Seek out the Dumahim loading
the assembly line and kill them. The fire in the center of the room
still has plenty of fuel, however. Find the service ducts and drop
down into them. Look over the decaying gas pipes. Near the
large spigot spewing gas upwards to the central burner is a wheel.
With the proper key, this wheel shuts off the gas from feeding the fire.
Leave the ducts and go find this key.
When you return with it, insert it down the
center and turn counterclockwise. The gas flow will be cut off.
Once it is however tiny leaks will burst in the ancient pipes.
Return above and go to the still burning bonfire.
The next puzzle is to put the fire out. The answer is to use the
water glyph, nothing else will work.
Now go back down to the service ducts and
locate a bellows. Take it to the largest leak furthest from the spigot.
Put into the fracture and pump the bellows. The pipe will burst open
and gas will gush out. Detector gauges, long rusty, will start reading
red very shortly.
As Raziel heads back upwards to the burnt out
bonfire, he is challenged by a Dumahim chieftain.
CUTSCENE
The chieftain is an old, powerful one, looking like
a smaller version of Dumah himself,
Blue electric arcs score it.
CHIEFTAIN O great spectre, you have come to extinguish the fires.
You've entered the
front door, but you shall not depart that way.
RAZIEL Out of my way, old one, lest you meet your fate sooner than
later!
CHIEFTAIN (laughs) When you ignite the gas, the explosion will be hot
enough to melt
the desert sand into glass! Many of the older furnaces will also
go, as will an
underground network of gas feeds. There is only one way out.
RAZIEL And you know it?
CHIEFTAIN Yes. And I will share it, if you spare me.
RAZIEL Spare you? I think not.
CHIEFTAIN Light the fire now then. Figure your own way out, try
to reach the Silenced
Cathedral, find where Kain awaits you.
Raziel eyes him for a moment, then lowers the
Reaver.
RAZIEL Agreed. You will lead me out of here.
Follow it down back into a separate service duct,
where several logs lie. It will show
you a tunnel that leads down deep to an underground lake.
CHIEFTAIN You'll have to swim out to the Cathedral's moat.
RAZIEL How do I know I can trust you?
CHIEFTAIN Because I lose by your destruction. Open the cathedral's
great pipes and let them sing. The riverbed will crack and the water
will drain deeper still. Then I will be free.
RAZIEL You're going to jump in?!
CHIEFTAIN Better that than burn (extends his arms), I've already been
dead once. I am
Thelem and I have nothing to fear. I am self redeemed and will
emerge triumphant.
RAZIEL The outcast?! You survived?
Thelem will not jump in til after Raziel leaves.
RAZIEL Thelem! Truly a name out of the long forgotten
past. Dumah's firstborn who became the scourge of the vampire empire
for heresy. Though damned by Kain and Dumah both, she was nearly
invincible, and the clans settled into despising and shunning her.
Across this gulf of centuries, I now see her plight not so unlike my own.
As I sought the place in which to free the land, I heard again her call
for self redemption. A goal worthy of my own pursuit.
Step back in front of the central gas spigot,
the warning gauges will all be red. Use the Fire Glyph to ignite
the gas.
CUTSCENE
Camera pans the Nosgoth night filling with
fiery light and thunder as the last active furnace explodes. It's
followed by the subterranean network of gas feeds, and finally a handful
of the old furnaces ignite as well. As Thelem foretold, the fire
crests over the desert in waves. The Melchahim, even the deeply buried
ones, are cremated in the blast.
Before ebbing, the heat reaches the cloth of Turel's abundant sigil
banners. Fire will consume much of Turel's Palace of the Sorceror
before dawn.
Raziel himself was shifted immediately into
the Spectral of course. Go back down to the underground lake and
jump down into the lakebed. Jog through its twists and turns.
When it ends in a grotto full of stalactites and stalagmites, he must return
to the Material Plane. Swim - fast - to the highest passage for once
in the physical world time resumes and the concussions of the explosion
affect escape. Raziel must push his way through a barrage of obstacles.
Navigate through the caverns, but stay alert
for the Rahabim who dwell here. Most look and act similar to what
they have before, but a handful have now reached a stage where their powers
are greatly increased. Avoid these sea monsters, they cannot be defeated
in the water! Swim onwards and steer clear of the many tempting fights.
Soon Raziel will reach a rusted grate, largely
blocked by a boulder. Destroy them both with the Amplified Force
Projectile. Move on into the moat of the Silenced Cathedral! Jump
up onto the bank -- and prepare to fight!
The great portcullis of the Cathedral has been
broken open, and recently. A small army of Zephonim have amassed
in exodus under the leadership of a large true eight legged Master.
They will spot you immediately and attack. Use the Amplified Force
Projectile on them and large numbers will explode. However, the octopodal
Master will not. The
Projectile will knock him over, but he'll hop right back up.
He is your next challenge. He will manuver
himself to block you from entering the Cathedral yet be swift enough to
avoid your assaults with the Soul Reaver. Here, once again, the Glyphs
are necessary. Use the one Glyph that invokes what even normal spiders
avoid: sunlight. Once stunned with the Sunlight Glyph, the joust
can be finished with the Soul Reaver's impale.
Enter the Silenced Cathedral.
CUTSCENE
Raziel leaps up onto the corridor above and
walks to the courtyard. The great doors that once stood there have
been ripped off their hinges. As he jumps and leaps upwards to the
first of the great fans, he ponders these events.
RAZIEL Having come to this place with all purpose to vent the
deadly hymn from its pipes, I could not escape the feeling of having been
watched. Or more accurately, having been anticipated, it was no
accident that the gates had been sundered. Here more than anywhere
else does Kain's words reveal truth. Yet, for the first time, the
vistas revealed by the Chronoplast have proven false.
[holds up a still yellow Reaver].
Moving ever deeper into the Cathedral, floating
upwards from each vent, find the so-called organ, and Scale to the top.
Open the pipes one by one - a sound ensues but it travels not beyond that
one chamber.
RAZIEL Ah, I see the workings of this instrument now.
I had given breath to its lungs, but alas its voice remained silent.
Re-familiarize yourself with the Cathedral.
There are three pipes. Seek out now the locations of three bells.
Two are close to one another while the third lies relatively close to the
pipe organ chamber. Strategically plan on how to hit all three so
as to make them sound off together.
Return to the bell in the chamber furthest
from the other two. Strike it, and shift into the Spectral Plane.
Listen for the sound of its resounding tone.
Stay in Spectral! You'll know you're
going the right way because you won't need to open any doors. Return
to the first landing (the first tower top), turning left to go to the door
on the left. Shift into Material, and open the door. Return
to Spectral. You should still be able to hear the first bell.
Move to the second bell, and return again to Material.
You should hear a deeper tone commence after hitting it. Shift
into Spectral for the last time (hopefully). Use the shattered window
to glide down to the second bell. Shift into the Material Plane,
and strike it. If you've hit it in time, a gong ensues and the cutscene
begins.
CUTSCENE
[pans above the Silenced Cathedral, revealing
its topside view.]
The spiral shell, emits great billows of steam
and the legendary deadly hymn ensues. In geographical proximity to
the Cathedral, and according to strength, the vampire legions are being
destroyed. The fleeing armies of Zephonim come apart like firecrackers.
Like all their brethren, the fledglings first, then the Masters.
[camera reveals deep catacombs]
Melchahim explode as well, howling.
[in the buildings and fortresses]
Dumahim bodies crack apart in agony, their
individual deaths take longer.
[camera dips under the waters]
Even in the depths, the deadly hymn isn't
muted enough to save the Rahabim.
Finally the mighty Turelim howling in agony
and clutching their ears the longest finally break apart and die.
Inside the Cathedral, however, a similar story
is unfolding. Either by sabotage or great age and general neglect,
the Cathedral is also crackling and crumbling. Like the vampire legions,
it has come to be a part of the Empire and will suffer its fate.
Great blocks of stone start to fall, and Raziel starts to run towards the
exit. The ground shakes. The cutscene follows Raziel downwards.
By the time he reaches the open courtyard, the pressure within the Cathedral
has grown so great, the tone of the blast rises in pitch.
Explosions of crashing steel and masonry thunder
the air.
When Raziel emerges from the Cathedral, the
camera pans away to the Cliffs above the Abyss. The Cathedral explodes
under tremendous pressure, the top towers shattering and flying off.
The deadly hymn comes to an end.
The camera pans downward onto the cliffs themselves
and reveals Kain shaking his head as if to ward off the last of the sound.
Raziel now knows where to go to confront Kain
for the last time. Run to the cliffs, and find nothing! Walk
out near the edge and look for Kain.
Raziel steps back to jump over onto the Cliffs.
CUTSCENE
Kain shifts into the Material Plane, and punches
Raziel backwards.
KAIN So now you suppose you've discovered my secrets, defeated
all my supporters.
RAZIEL (regaining his feet) I know why you did it. Do you dare
think it changes anything between us?
KAIN (smiling) Truly my faith was well placed. Not as a dilettante
might imagine it as
jealousy over your wings. No, I held this very image of you,
of your actions, from the
moment I broke into your Tomb. I knew you were the one from the
very start.
RAZIEL The one? For what?
KAIN To free me from this anvil! To free me from the weight of
this world! And to
defeat the last stain of Nosgoth's human masters.
RAZIEL The Demon.
KAIN Hash'ak'gik. He waits down below (points down to the Abyss).
I doubt Ariel
mentioned that the Circle created him, from start to finish?
I wasn't the first vampire
made by Mortanius, no, all of our kind, are the children of the Circle.
You have already
met Janos Audrin, in his spectral form! Revived and incarnated
and destroyed over and
over by the fickle desires of the corrupt Circle. Do you not
see now that they betrayed
even your precious Sarafan (laughs)? Their crimes were many,
I was merciful in killing
them all.
RAZIEL As I shall be to you.
The cutscene ends. Raziel charges and yet
Kains stands still. Raziel hits him with the Reaver, and it just
bounces off. He hits him again and the blow then glows blue.
KAIN (laughs)
Raziel hits him twice again, then Kain reaches
forth and thrusts his claws under Raziel's ribcage. He lifts the
struggling Raziel, and they shift together into Spectral.
