Chapter 5: The Un-dead Like Talking Smack!

Edith was sure, that something had to of been going on with him. Kain had been not acting like himself ever since they had started into the Black Forest. He was more angry, his old looks had resurfaced, and he seemed more and more in a hurry as they walked.
“Good lord, you children are taking forever!” he huffed.
“Well we aren't vampire you know!” Kim objected.
Kain stopped glared at her stopped and grappled her, “You're right. Maybe I should make you ones if you're going to complain.”
Edith grabbed Kain's wrist. “Let her go. You know killing her won't get you what you want.”
Kain glared at Edith even harder than he had to Kim, “Stupid human,” he uttered. “Fine, you take care of her if she's so damn important to you.” Kain walked away from them.

Jerk. Edith thought. Edith followed at a constant pace, and safe distance away from him. Edith didn't know what to think. He had gotten angry only after this morning when they got into the forest.
Kim hurried up behind her almost using her as cover.
“What?” Edith asked.
Kim looked up at her in shock. “You helped me. Why'd you go and do that? I thought you hated me.”
Edith still looked aggravated. “Who told you something like that?”
“Gabriel.”
“First off, I think a lot of things.” She said stopping. “It's true, I don't like you, but I don't want you to die or anything.”
“But everyone says the reason Reen won't go out with me is because you say that I do crystal-meth or something...”
“What the- I never said anything like that!”
“Amanda told me that...”
“Amanda's lying!”
“Well it makes sense! You just flat out said you don't like me.”
Edith sighed and continued walking “Kim, I mean this as honestly as I can. But you can be kind of over-bearing, haughty, rude, vengeful, and un-humble.”
Kim stared at her, “And what exactly does that mean?”
Edith sighed, “You're a jerk to me, and just about everybody else I know.” Edith stared in front of her. Kain was glancing their direction walking rather slowly. He turned quickly. “Come on, we'd better catch up.”

After an hour Edith finally guessed it would be safe to assume that it would be all right to ask Kain when they would get out of the forest.
“Uh... Kain”
“Hm?” he said in response notifying he was listening.
“How long will it take us to get out of the forest?”
Kain shrugged. “ Depends on how fast we go, if you three hate the woods so much, then we could go to the dark forge OR you could make haste.”
“What's that?”
“Do you ever stop asking so many questions?” Kain groaned with impatience. “It's an old temple for the soul reaver. We could find means of shelter there,” He said with anger lingering in his voice.
Edith paused, “Why are you angry at us?”
“There wasn't any hint saying that I WAS, now, was there?”
“Kain,” Edith began. “You grappled Kim and threatened to kill her and bring her back as a Vampire.”
“She got annoying. Besides that fact, you helped her.”
“Yeah, I did because it was the right thing to do.”
“You're rather righteous for a human, don't you find?”
“Kain, quit being a jerk. Even you said I don't act like a human girl.”
“Well I was wrong, you just taste differently than the sheepish pry I have slew time and time again.”
“If you really mean that, then prove it.”
“Fine, I will,” He said stubbornly. “The moment Raziel is resurrected, I will have no furthermore use for you or your companions,” he stopped and pointed at her throat. “I'll get out every last drop out of you all.”
“Fine. See if I care for my life. Good luck with that burning sensation.”
Kain gave her a torturous smirk, “You know you love life. The moment of our reunion, you'll run like the devil's at your heels.”
“No, I won't. I'll stay right there, and see if you have as much guts as you say you do. Like a obedient little 'sheep'.”
“Oh, I just bet you will... As a matter of fact, I COUNT on it. I have never passed up a single opportunity for blood,”
Edith pointed at her bite marks, “Yeah, I noticed THAT days ago...” She rolled her eyes slightly.
Kain looked at her rather surprisingly, “Ornery girl,” he uttered, and walked ahead of her.
Double jerk. Edith thought. I can't believe I ever saw him as my Father-figure!

Edith was sure that Kain meant it, but if he did, there would be a possibility that they couldn't even revive
Raziel! He was assuming too much! He assumed that they could revive his friend, he assumed that he would ever find the sword, he assumed that he would have enough guts to kill them all!

After Walking for a good, and unbearably, silent thirty minutes or so Kain stopped dead in his tracks, looked one way, then forward, then he turned. “It's your call, the forge, or Uschtenheim?”
“The Dark forge, defiantly.”
Kain eyed her oddly.
“What?” She was surprised that he was curious. “I like old stuff... Besides we're already here, we might as well before we have to come back and look there.”
Kain paused then nodded in approval. He couldn't tell if she was up to something or not. And, to be so correct, she was. If Kain had really meant it, then she wanted to call him out at the closest, most unexpected time, and he knew it too, good.
“I'll consider it your customary dieing wish, girl.”
Kim stared at them “What does that mean?” She asked sheepishly. “What?”
“O.M.G.!!! She's selling us to that guy!”
“Oh, will you two shut up already!” He complained. “You two jump to too many conclusions!”
“Oh, my gosh she totally did!” Kim shrieked.
“Get a grip!”
“Listen,” Gabriel said stepping in front of Kim. “These,” She indicated her body, “Are OFF limits!”
Kain laughed a torturous laugh, “Like you are at all worth it!” He walked off without looking back.
They followed Kain through a muddy swamp and onto a parapet over looking the swampy land. There were no trees around anymore instead, just deltas and swamp-goop.
“Ewww!!!” Kim yelled. “I'm all muddy and sweaty! I need a break!”
“Good,” Kain said as he looked at them, “You can keep watch out here while Edith and I go inside.”
There was a groan from Gabriel. “Why do you get to go inside, we want to get out of this swamp!”
Kain smiled before turning to her, “Fine, you can stay with us. Just mind the traps, don't touch anything, and mind the specters.”
“The What?”
“Specters. The un-dead guardians that protect the forges from everyone but 'the one'.”
“Have a good time!” Kim said as she sat promptly.

The opening to the temple was obstructed, like someone had rammed them down with a catapult. The inside looked like the inside of Kain's tomb, but instead of it being a square room, it was a hall that was shaped like a big L. Everywhere Edith turned she could feel a sense of wrong around her, like the hall was going to eat them. What did Raziel do to posses himself to come here?
“Kain, could I ask you a personal question?”
“What?”
“How did Raziel merge with the soul-reaver?”
“I was at the base of the corrupted pillars, when he came he tried to kill me under false pretenses. I defended myself with the soul reaver's physical shell. It broke on him when I tried to stop him.”
“Why do I get the feeling there's more to it than that?”
“You asked me, I answered. That was what you asked me to do. That's the funny thing about my friend, You always, and only get, what you gamble for.”
“Really?” You must be the one exception! “So why is he dead?”
Kain stared at her with disgust, “You admire long never-ending waves of questions, don't you?”
“Yep.”
“You're plotting something...”
“Yep.”
“Will you tell me?”
“Nope.”
“Reallyyy?” Kain said stressing the ending E part.
“Yep, you can't get me to tell,” Edith smiled fakely.
“Is that so?” Kain said lunging at he hands first “Corporal punishment!!!”
Before Edith knew it she was dragged into a tickle-fight.
“AHHHH!!! Kain-Ah-ha-ha-haaa! Cu- Ha-ha! Cut it out-ha-aha!”
“Spill it!”
“HA-ha-ha NEVER!!!! Ha-ha-ha!!!”
“Wrong answer, human!
“I ha-ha-ha-haaa!!! Resent you!!! HA-ha-ha!!!”
“Resent me all you want! That won't change anything!”
“I-if I d haa-ha-ha-ha die because of ha-ha-ha-hhhhaaaa!!! Lack of air!!! Ha-ha-ha!!! then I'll blame yooooouuuuu!!!!”
“But you're at fault here, not me. You won't tell!”
“And I never will, Vampire scummmm!!! Ha-ha-ha!!!” After a while Edith realized Kain had stopped. “Air! Sweet air!”
“Tell me.”
“No point now,” Edith explained. “It already worked!”
Kain looked at her with shock, and sheer, honest to god shock and terror.
“So me-”
“Yup.”
Kain pointed at her accusingly, “You little Witch!!” He breathed. “You toyed with my emotions!”
“You did it to me too!”
Kain still had that unbelievably surprised look on his face. Mouth agape and everything. “I... have never been toyed with so openly... I must say that I'm rather impressed... Actually... It's really quite amazing... Like a image of my mere-self...”
“Thank you, now let's see if we can find your so called 'friend'”
“You've learned a lot in the past few days... I'm speechless! You won't act like a human for long if you keep it up!”
“Yeah, I know...” she grumbled
“You're being...” Kain paused, “How do you say it... Oh, yes. A Jerk.”
“Hey,” Edith proclaimed. “You're learning!”
Kain sighed, “I do not know why though. You are in MY world now, so to speak.”
“Why do I have to learn to talk like you?”
Kain sighed. “Edith, I mean no offense to you, or your other-worldly customs. But when I first met you, I had to piece together what little speech I could understand and assume what I thought was what you were trying to say.”
“Oh, I think I get it.” Edith said after listening. “I'm here, now. So I need to act like I've lived here all my life so people don't know where I really come from.”
“In a way,” Kain continued to walk. “What can you do so far?”
“I don't know. Give me a situation. I'm in-I mean WAS in production drama class at school.”
“Alright, there is a situation. Translate what you just said to me.”
Edith cleared her throat, and tried to speak with her best British accent. “Perhaps, what I mean to say is, Kain, is that where I come from, I was enrolled among the highest of my peers in advanced theater.”
Kain looked at her with no sign of any impression on his face.
“It is an acceptable start.”
“What?”
“For starters,” Kain began, “Your lexicon could have been more complex, especially for a Nosgothian girl your age. It would also be best in your interests not to mention that you are a performer around anybody other than your closest traveling companions.”
“Why not?”
“Actors, here, in Nosgoth, are not looked upon with great respect and dignity. Unless you are an opera singer.”
“Sorry, I don't sing well.”
“That is something else I would like you to take note of,” Kain glanced at her following. “This 'Don't, can't, aren't, couldn't' will tip anybody off you are not from Nosgoth. I understand what they are, and what they are for, but others will not.”
“Okay. No more abbreviations. Got it.”
“I have one more thing left to say,” Kain looked at her with a troubled look, “Do not speak with an accent. I can tell it was completely fake. You can pass as a common traveler if you use your own relaxed voice. It's much more natural and pretty that way.”
“Oh, gee,” Edith mumbled “Thanks...” In honesty, she liked speaking like that, it made her feel all mystical and cool that way.
“Now try using all of my suggestions,” he recommended.
Edith paused and smiled. “You, sir,” she began. “ Are critical, rude, and distasteful to my emotions. You wad them up like an old piece of parchment!”
Kain looked shocked, “How insulting! You cut me to the quick!”
“Oh, did I do something wrong again?!”
“No!” Kain said. “You were very good on such small advice. It is just the fact that what you just said was rather rude!”
“I didn't mean it! I swear!”
“Good,” Kain emphasized. “Try something a little less rude. If you don't mind me asking!”
“Sorry,” Edith mumbled sadly.
“It is quite alright. I am not considering the current situation from your own point of view.”
Edith thought, “It seems that there is a fastened doorway leading to our destination, my friend.”
Kain nodded in approval, “Good, you are learning rather quickly. The 'my friend' part was a little much though.”
“Er... Kain?” Edith said as she looked ahead.
“Yes?”
“I really mean it.” She pointed past him.
“Oh,” he said stopping. “I see...”
He rubbed his hand over the rocky texture of the door. It was covered in cob webs. It had a large bowl-like indentation in it's center, like it meant something. Kain pushed up against it with all of his weight. “I can not move it.” He turned to Edith. “let us see if you can.”
Edith rubbed her palms together vigorously and began to push. “I meant your blood.”
“Oh,” Duh. “Right, of course...” Did Edith sure feel foolish! Kain was an all powerful vampire that had unimaginable strength. Why would she be able to move it?
“Do you need a fresh cut?” he asked.
Edith was thinking about using her neck injury as a sourse. But she then realized that opening up one of her arteries wasn't her greatest idea ever.
“Uh... Sure...”
Kain sighed, “Hand please.”Edith held out her hand obediently and was already bracing herself for the pain. There was a small picking noise and a jab. “There, fresh as yesterday.”
Edith looked at her hand, there was a cut no larger than a regular paper cut but it bled like there was no tomorrow. “Thanks,” Edith managed to utter.
She placed her bleeding palm on the door. Nothing.
“Kain, it's not working!”
“I can see that. Do you see anything that might be used as a key?”
Edith looked around, “No, sorry, I don-”
Kain eyed her.
“I mean do not see any thing like that.”
“Well there has to be something...”
Edith thought as she looked at the door, Kain grabbed the back of her collar, “Wait,” she said brushing it off. “I think I've got it. A bowl or shield maybe?”
“Good idea,” Kain said.
Edith looked over, Kain was at least ten feet away from her, “How'd you get way over there?”
“I walked,” Kain said bluntly.
“And still grabbed my collar? I don't think so.”
“I never grabbed your collar,” he said in a “matter-of-factly” tone.
“Well something did...” Edith grumbled. She turned around to face where they had come from. There was a mummy-looking warrior standing there, no more than two feet away from her. It seemed to be stuck in its position from grabbing Edith's shirt. It grunted, hissed and tried to move in vain, but was transfixed to everything that had happened.
“Maybe it was your new friend?” Kain asked sarcastically. Edith frowned at him, “Sorry.” He looked at Edith's “Grunting friend” closely. “It seems your 'friend' wanted to aid us.” he said as he took a golden shield from the helpless corpse.
“Cool,” Edith mumbled half-heartedly. Being next to buried dead people was one thing, and watching dead stuff on anime was another thing entirely, but being up-close to a real-live zombie was not really appealing...

Kain brushed off the dust and placed it in the door. Edith stepped back away from the door as it squeaked open. It led into a square room with no way out, except for the bared wall, which over-looked a court-yard. Kain rubbed his hands as vigorously as Edith had done only a minute ago. Grabbed the two center ones, and pulled them apart like they were bread. “After you,” he mumbled eloquently. Edith looked at him as though he was a nut.
“Umm... You should probably go first...”
“Edith, I am an expert on safety and protection. You have nothing to fear by be being a foot or so ahead of me,” He looked over.
What about you? You're a fear aren't you? She thought.
“Your little friend might stay that way for a while. Do you want stay and figure out how long exactly? I would prefer otherwise.”
“Good point,” Edith said as she felt the shivers in her skin. Edith merely had to rely on her gut and think to herself that he would burn up if he bit her. “But why save me if all you're going to do is kill me when you're done with me?” Edith said, not really to ask, but to make sure he didn't forget.
“Oh! Oh, yes!” He exclaimed. “I can not believe I forgot about that...” She heard him whisper.
“Problems?” She asked just to tease him.
“What?” Kain snapped out of his inner quarrel. “Certainly not! You are, or rather, CLAIM to be a regular, human, vermin. Why would I feel any sympathy towards you?”
Edith stepped thought the broken bars, “I don't know, I was just reminding you. That's all.”
She noticed how Kain didn't give her that look whenever she said “that's”! Which might if been a warning that it was working...
“I think you're being a little harsh,” Edith explained. “Not all humans are bad like the Saraphan, or whatever you called.”
“I beg to differ!” Kain said sharply. “Humans all want the same thing! They all chant in a chorus, saying the same thing over, over and over again; ' The last of the Vampires must die!'”
“Come on! If there are so many Humans, trying to hunt you down. They must have a reason! No one race is completely that good!”
“Keep deluding yourself, girl. All humans secretly want something.”
“What does Vampire-hunting have to do with me being a girl, if you don't mind me asking?”
“Simple, you are a Human child. Besides, you are female. Human women do not understand the call to battle as well as Vampire Women do.”Edith looked at him with disgust. Shook her head, and walked quickly away from him.“What?!”
“You are so sexist!” She grunted.
“What?!” he asked, clueless and befuddled. “What did you mean by that?!”
“Drop it you wouldn't get a word of it!”
“I didn't get a word of that!” He protested.
“You won't even if I do explain!
“You are not giving me a fair chance, Edith! You are being brutal!”
“ I don't care, you're brutal too!”
“True...” Kain said rolling his eyes ever so slightly.
Ed ignored him and continued to walk at a fast pace.
“Um... How do we get in?” she had stopped to stare at a pair of huge double-doors with a big sword with a curving blade on it.
“See?” Kain asked as he gestured the sword. “The soul-reaver. One of them at least...”
“Wait, what? One of them?” Edith looked at him. “There are more?!”
“One, actually.” He looked at the mural, “If you really want to get technical, that is only one half of the soul-reaver.” He looked at Edith. “So, do you think I should try and pry it open?”
“It never hurts to try,” Edith looked at him earnestly.
Kain shrugged, looked at the door and began to try and tear it apart. In the mean-time, Edith decided to take a look at the lamp-post looking thing.

It was stone that was completely stuck fast to the ground, so it had to of been sculpted. Duh. She thought antagonistically. It wouldn't look like my bracelet or a lamp-post if it was a natural land-formation! The snake was a bit larger than her bracelet, but as she held them up to inspect them, she saw they were identical, from the same stone and everything! What was this thing anyway? Kain seemed to know most of what he was doing, so maybe he knew.
“Kain?”
“I'm busy! Is it important?”
“It might be, I don't really know.”
Kain glared at her. “I mean- I DO NOT know! Oh, you know what I mean!”
“Better, but you need discipline,” He let go of the sealed doors. “It can not be worse than this...” He grumbled. “So what is it?”
“What is that?” she asked as she pointed to the lamp-post.
“That is the eternal wheel,” he said bluntly. “It was what the Original Vampires worshiped. The cycle of life and death that everything is compelled to.”
“So that's what this is!” Edith exclaimed. “I'll bet my salary that this was how me and Kim got here!”
“What?” Kain said quietly.
Edith held out her wrist. “See?”
Kain grabbed her hand violently and pulled her in closer to look at the “wheel” closer. “Where did you get this?”
he asked sharply, “Where?!”
“I-i-it was a birthday present,” she stuttered. “From my friend, Reen!”
“How did he acquire it?”
“From a shop! A resale shop, I swear!”
“Did he tell you anything about its history or background?”
“No! He didn't know!”
Kain released her wrist. “Tell me exactly, and I mean exactly, what happened before you found yourself in Nosgoth and up till my awakening!”
Edith Explained everything she had said, done and felt, even the strange sensation she got when she approached his coffin.
“You say that the teacher had a awkwardly distorted face, did you not?”
“Yeah. Why?”
“Could it of possibly of been a Hylden?”
“I'm not sure,” she uttered truthfully. “If it was a Hylden, then it was my first one.”Kain looked at her with regret, caution, and confusion.“What?”
“If the Hylden want you and your companions for reasons unknown, then I suppose I can not have the pleasure of catching you and killing you, now, can I?”
“Sorry, I'm not on the menu.”
“Hm. Pity though... I was rather looking forward to it... What a shame...” Kain said half-laughing. “But right now I suppose we ought to be focusing at the current situation at han-”
Kain was interrupted by the two doors opening slowly.
“Never mind...” Kain uttered.
“Cool!” Edith said looking at the wheel. “Note to self; don't leave home without you!”
Inside was a very large, dark room similar to Kain's crypt, only it was rectangular and there was a light illuminating a pedestal with the outline of the same curved blade she had seen on the murals.
“It is here...” Kain said almost as if he was sad about it. “Well, I think you should take it from here,” He said ushering her toward the light.
“Wait a minute! You know the guy! And the sword! Why do I have to get it?”
“I believe that you are the only thing that can resurrect him. You did the same to me.” He pushed her towards the light.

She could feel something pull her, like an invisible string was pulling her towards it. Her body stopped fighting away from it without her permission. It seemed to be completely calm and unfased, while she really felt anguish and fear. Her back straightened, her fist's stopped clenching and rested gracefully at her sides, even her face seemed completely composed as she unwillingly approached the sword.
She could only control her thoughts as she helplessly watched herself grab the sword by the handle and lift it from its fixed location.
“Good, now bring it to me.”
Edith realized something in Kain's expression. It was impatient, greedy, and tyrannic. The soul-reaver, was a weapon that he treasured Still she found herself unable to even glare at him.
Edith could feel her her head shake sternly as her apathetic face turned into a frown.
“Never.”
Kain seemed realize something. He jumped back slightly.
Regardless, Edith watched herself lunge at inhuman speed swinging the sword at him like a crazy person.
“Good God!”
There was a small skirmish on the spot. It mostly ended with Kain getting cuts galore over his hands.
Without control of anything, Edith jumped back to the pedistal free hand held the end of the sword, and quickly grazed her palm over it. She dropped the sword on the pedestal and stepped back.
Holy crap! What was that? Was I possessed?! She thought as her body in all of it's entirety.
She looked at her bloody palm and fingers. The wounds, there gone... Edith looked up at Kain who was approaching slowly.
“Are you?”
“I'm good...”
“Look at your wounds.”
“I did, they aren't there.”
“What?”
“Look for yourself,” Edith held out her hand.
“Don't be ridiculous. There is no way you can have no wounds. Your blood is all over the floor.”
“What? How did it get there?”
“When you tossed away the reaver it got spilled.”
Edith thought for a second, My blood is special, huh? It can revive him, huh? Edith shot herself down with many things like that. Then realized something that she had missed.
“Show me,” she demanded as Kain licked the blood off her hand.
He looked up, “Wha?”
“Show me where it is now.”
“It's over there,” he said pointing just beyond the pedestal.
Edith ignored him and walked over to were would've been.
“Where, again?” she asked harshly.
“It was right there, I swear.”
“Well it's gone now,” Edith investigated the floor, just in case it fell between the tiles. She got up slowly. “It worked then?”
“It is hard to say... Where is the reaver?”
Edith spun around on her heel, and picked it up, “here.”
“Let me see it.”
Edith suddenly found herself unable to even hold the sword out in front of her, “Why?”
Kain rolled his eyes, “Because I said so. THAT'S why.”
“Why do you want it so bad? I know you're hiding something.” Edith thought, “You lied to me didn't you? This is not a sword for protection, it's a sword to murder humans! That's why I can't find my blood anywhere! You used me!!!”
“I'm a Vampire, what did you expect?” He said half sarcastically. “Either way you are saying things that mean nonsense.”
“You mean you never told her?”
Edith looked up, Where was that voice coming from?!
“Ah, I knew you were here somewhere, Raziel.” Kain said as he looked up and circled the room. “Although I do not see you anyway...
“You are not one to talk, Kain. You have still yet to find me, and I so doubt that you will convince me to come out.”
“You might be right.”
“I am.
“Do you really think that you are that smart?”
“I survived Hell did I not?”
“It wasn't Hell, Raziel. It was the abyss I tossed you into.”
“Is there any real difference? Maybe I ought to push you into the lake of the dead and see if you survive a millennium...”
Kain cringed, “I think I will be fine without seeing that.”
Wuss, Edith thought.
“Well if you came here to gamble, then gamble by all means. Even though it would be a waste of your breath, Kain. Or, is that why you brought her here?”
“No, I am here to barter with you. She has just been a stepping stone.”
“Barter on then.”
“It appears as though our common enemy has not yet made their advancements yet.”
“Am I alleged that I know what is happening? I have been dormant for years, Kain. I believe that a more categorical explanation is in order.”
“I do believe you can piece what little thread of information we have together. In some cases I am more clueless than you are.”
“Wait!” Edith blurted out rather loudly. “I don't get a thing you guys are saying. Can you guys clarify, please?”
There was a moment of silence. “Why does she talk like that? Her accent makes me cringe...”
“She is but a foreigner...” Kain sighed. “Just try to understand, it is a rather long story.”
Edith could feel embarrassment creep up her spine.
“Hmmm... Alright then... What all does she know?”
“Not much... I had to patch-up our story so she would help.”
There was a scoff and sarcastic snicker, “'OUR story'? What do you mean when you say; 'OUR story'? True, our legacies are indeed intertwined, but that doesn't mean they are the same story.”
My legacy. You are another character.”
“I dare you to say that again, bastard.”
“You are the one who never knew your real father when you were human, yet you have enough wit to call me a bastard? You resemble me in more ways then you can think, Raziel. It is just-”
“What?! May I dare ask...”
“Well, I never seem to get killed...really, that's all... While you have died...How many times, again? I lost count.”
“Oh, like you are one to argue! The only reason why you have managed to live was because you killed everyone who you thought posed a threat.”
“So that makes me smarter AND more dangerous than you!”
A rock fell from the ceiling and would of landed on Kain's head if he hadn't transported a few paces out of the way.
“Damn, I missed...”
“See? You are slipping worse than Moebius.”
“Who I killed, by the way!”
“As I recall, I was the one who impaled him first.”
“I want answers!” Edith blurted out. “What is going on? What are you talking about? Where is that voice coming from?”
“You told her absolutely nothing. Did you, Kain?”
“Does informing a human stranger sound like something I would do?”
“True. As I remember it, they found out another way. And you say that I resemble Moebius!”
Kain grumbled, “Yes Raziel, very clever ...” He said sarcastically.
“I am going to assume that I am to be the third party then?”
“I could just kill her.”
“Something rings in my ear. Saying that unless there was a good reason for not doing so, you would of killed her ages ago.” Kain didn't answer. “So what is it then? Has the wolf grown so attached to it's prey it can not bring itself to the hunt? To kill? To feed? Or is she merely being used for personal gain like so many?”
“Are you claiming that she brings out the 'Human' in me? I am surprised you could ever think such a thing. She is no different from any other prey.”
“That tone... You don't know what your feelings are right now... What a bloody shock.”
He was right, Kain's voice cracked, stuttered, and his tone was a lot less heroic, more... Human.
“You claim that this human is no difference... Let me see her then. I will be the final judge of that.”
Edith was pulled up by the back of her hair, and her body, instinctively, froze. She felt like a cat being grabbed by the scruff of its neck.
“Eep!” she squeaked.
There was silence, even from Kain who was staring at whatever was holding her up.
She sheepishly tried to turn her head around. She couldn't see anything, just blue. His sleeve, maybe? Whatever, or who ever it was saw her face enough though to tell she was a normal human.
“You!” he accused and dropped her. “I remember you!”
Edith spun around as fast as she could, and looked up.
There was a thing, much like Kain with the bird-like feet and claw-like hands, but that was about it.
He was a skeleton with most of his muscles still on him. You could see his lower ribs, which were protruding from his chest underneath a brownish-red wrap around.
He had no organs of any kind, or eyes, instead his eyes were glowing-white sockets, and his greasy, frayed hair fell recklessly in front of them. He looked so creepy, in a cool way...
But this was not what she expected when she thought she would meet Raziel!
He jumped over her and did what she should of done seconds ago which was floor-it for the door.
Wait! Why is he running away? I've never met him!
Edith got up as fast as she could. “Stop!” She grabbed his over-sized scarf.
He still kept running till it slipped off his shoulders.
It slowed down when it realized. Then turned it's head around slowly. It had no lower jaw.
It blinked, then Edith realized that the contour of his forehead and his eyelids could give away its expressions.
