Chapter 4: The Really Awkward Chapter

The next day, did Kim and Edith sure get a surprise. Kain was telling them why he didn't burn up in the sun, which turned out to be because he was a powerful vampire. Kain looked up suddenly, “Shh!” he warned them not to move a muscle. After a moment of not even breathing, Kain vanished in front of them and they heard a scream come from outside.
“What the?”
Edith and Kim rushed to his side wanting to see what he had found. He was holding up a girl with natural brunet hair, though she died it blond. Her hair was strait, and was tied up in a pony tail that stook strait up off her head. She had pale skin that was unnaturally tan, everybody said she was golden, to Edith she looked like a piece of slightly burnt toast, and was shorter and younger than Edith only by a year.
“Gabriel!”
“Kimmie!”
Kain dropped her on the spot, He leaned in close to Edith. “An ally of ours?”
“I guess so. She and Kim are. Kim and I aren't friends.”
“Really?” Kain asked. “I hadn't noticed,” he continued sarcastically.
The two re-united friends went on an overly-dramatic frenzy with each other about shoes, clothes and why this place sucked. Kain rolled his eyes, and picked up a sack that he had found earlier, “I'll go look for anything we can acquire for our further use. Get them to help you find appropriate apparel-” he paused and stared at them in disbelief, shook his head, and looked at Edith again “If you can.”
Edith smiled, “We'll check the attic.” Kain looked at her in a way that said “I-don't-know-what-you-mean-by-we.-But-good-luck-anyway.” Kain left the room with utter curiosity in his face.
Edith did a few vocal warm up exercises (she was in theater so she knew many), cleared her voice one last time and then shouted, “Hey! Do you guys want go help me find some clothes?”
Immediately the two fashion-sharks were shaking her “Where do we start?”
Edith knew, corsets and rugged leather wasn't what they were used to, but just the chance at all, to try on something new was probably like a blessing to them.
Kim chose a regal-looking corset and dress, Gabby chose a waist-cincher, wore a green shirt and pair of pants. Unfortunately, there was nothing else that didn't say: “Hi I'm a vampire!”
Kain found them after twenty minutes or so.
“Good news or bad news?”
Kain looked at her, “Why are you not in commoners clothes?”
“That's the bad news. There is no more that doesn't look too vampire-ish,” Edith explained.
Kain sighed, “Show me. Maybe we can assemble something manageable.”
Edith withdrew the first thing she found, which was a purple leotard, with most of it's back and stomach part cut off.”
A Nosgothian swim-suit? Edith thought bluntly.
Kain snatched it from her hand's looked at if, blushed, and shoved it back into the chest.
“Never mind!” he grunted.
Everybody looked at Kain as he slammed the top of the chest. Even I didn't think think it was that bad! Edith pondered. “But-”
Kain looked at them, “NO! No, not even in hell! NO! NO! NO!”
Edith gave up on the suit, obviously Kain had something against it, Edith just wished he had told her why!
“So why did you flip-out when you saw that outfit?”
“I'll tell you when we've discovered the crux of our ignorance” he grunted.
“I'm sixteen you know,” Edith grunted back.
“I don't care for your age, I care about not spilling my villainy to you!”
Edith stared at him, “Geez, dad! You don't have to be such a jerk about it!”
Kain stared at her with shock in his eyes, “What?”He swallowed. “What did you say?..”
“Kain,” Edith lied. “I called you Kain”
“No you didn't!” Gabriel objected. “You called him a jerk.”
“Yes, I know that! That's not what I mean! Previously though!”
Kim shrugged.
“I uh...” I need an excuse. Edith thought. “I ummm...” Edith knew this probably wasn't going to work. “Look!”
She shouted. “A distraction!”
At once, all of them turned around, and Edith ran down the stairs, out the manor, and turned to her right. She wasn't about to go into the Black Forest!

What was that? I called him DAD! What forced that into my mouth?! I don't see him as my dad!
Edith couldn't believe what she had said, what made it was worse was that Kain heard heard it!
Edith found an old spring well not even off the land. If Kain really wanted to find her, she'd follow her scent or something. Right? Either way, she needed to calm down really badly.
After five minutes, Kain came out of hiding and approached her cautiously, “Are you adequate, to spill out to me your disgrace?”
Edith sat up, “Not till you!”
Kain didn't glare at her, more like glared at the sky. He looked behind him, then sighed. “Fine, you obstinate girl,” he breathed. “this might amuse you. Ridicule me though, and you won't be able speak.”
Don't make fun of the emotional Vampire, got it! Edith nodded.
“Well, I went to sleep once, due to the metamorphosis, of coarse, but also from wounds.”
“I'm sure they weren't that bad, were they?”
“Half of them would of crippled any human, no matter how strong. Imagine all of them together. Regardless, I was asleep for two hundred years. When I woke, there was a vampire, one of Vorador's. She kept watch over me for many years till I woke.”
“What happened to her?”
“Be patient, I'll get there soon enough. She was defiantly a vampire, but she didn't look like any other Vampire woman I had ever met. Her name was Umah.”
OK, sleeping, then met Umah, got it.
“She reminded me of my vampiric heritage, re-taught me things I could do. After, we seemed to meet in many other coincidences, so I though I could trust her. Then, one day, when we were going as a team to slay someone that threatened our existence, then she betrayed me, because she thought my ambitions were distasteful.”
“Like what?”
Kain looked down at her, “I have told you what you originally asked for, don't mistake that as an act of grace. Now it's your turn.”
“Wait, I have one question,”
“Fine. Ask away.”
“Umah, what happened to her?”
Kain paused, then shook his head, “She's been dead. She died of loss of blood from fighting the Saraphan.” he explained. “Now it's your turn!”
Edith sighed, “My father died when I was very young, and my mother re-married, and left to see the world. I lived with my grandparents for a year or so till my sister went to sleep in an 'unexplainable comma'.”
“So you see me as a parent, not a Vampire who could kill you?” Kain asked.
“I guess I see you as the second one. I mean we look nothing a like, I'm not a vampire, and I'm terrified to talk to you even, because you scare the liv'in crap out of me.”
Kain looked surprised for a second, then smiled sympathetically. “Well,” he put his hand on her head, “you don't have to worry anymore.” he rubbed his fingers between her hair. “You are safe as long as you can trust me.”
Edith felt all warm and fluffy inside, then realized this wasn't right. Her dad was dead, that much was true. But she couldn't jump to conclusions after she had met the guy YESTERDAY.
“Whoa! Hold on there!” Edith backed up away from Kain. “What the heck? I barely know you! I met you yesterday! Don't go getting any ideas bub!”
Kain looked confused, “What ideas?”
“You know what I mean!”
“No. I can't say I do.”
“Oh-I see everything! It's like one of those tv shows were I think you're a bad guy, and there is always someone behind you telling you what to-” Edith paused, the answer was right in front of her.
“What?” Kain repeated.
“Kain, were are Gabby and Kim?”
Kain looked in confused, “In the bushes, why?”
“Did they tell you anything?”
“Yes, that your feelings are delicate, and they gave me some of there advice.”
Edith grabbed the nearest large branch, ran passed Kain, and started whacking the bushes screaming; “I'll kill YOU!!!!!!!!!”
“Edith, it's not that big of a situation!”
Edith continued to whack at the brushes, “I KILL YOUUUUUUU!!!!!!” She cried.
Kain detained her, “Good lord, girl! Get a grip of your anger!”
“Why? So you can toy with me and me emotions even further? Or you think that I am being mean to them?”
“You are taking this rather harshly!”
“You would too!”
“I'd-” Kain paused “I'd actually have to agree with you there! But just because I did it doesn't mean that you should!”
Kim poked her head out of the bush followed by Gabriel's, “Look, the couple are is having a fight!”
Edith pulled with all of her might but Kain's grip was too strong. “I swear to god I liked you better when you were knocked out!”
“Edith!” Kain turned around and shook her a few fast times then stopped suddenly. “Are you better now?”
Edith breathed in deeply, “Yeah, I think I'm fine...”she said slowly.
“Good.” He glanced over Edith, looked at her with a cheap smile. “Let me take care of this,” He said calmly. Kain let go of Edith, slapped both Kim and Gabriel (and said some things too nasty to tell)...
“Now go inside, and STAY there!” Both of the girls where crying there eyes out.
Edith stared, not believing what she had witnessed, “I took it to far, huh?”
Kain sighed, “That wasn't too hard after all they just did.”
“Kain,” Edith said with an “I'm-still-angry-at-you” Tone. “I was intending on hitting them with a stick once or twice. You cursed them out, slapped them, and made them cry.” there was a moment of pause, “For real.”
Kain laughed, “I see... I suppose I did give them hell, didn't I?” He began to laugh again. “What? You don't see the irony?”
Edith gave him a blank face, “Not really.”
“Don't tell me you're still angry at me!”
Edith glared, “I am.”
“Why, then?”
“You knew that I was never friends with them. Yet you decided to take they're advise. Can you see the irony in that?”
Edith decided to go inside. That was the worst day ever!
