For some reason….the time streaming device had malfunctioned.
That was the only reason Kain could think of.
He remembered stepping through the portal, leaving Raziel behind in
the Chronoplast chamber, and then found himself looking up, in the stinging
sunlight, at a huge, foliage-covered mansion. He heard the portal
roar to life once more, and saw Raziel emerging through, carrying a physical
soul reaver, as well as his own wraith blade.
“Where have you been?” enquired Kain.
“I went looking for you. I found Moebius instead….he shall not
be troubling us further. You may need this.” Said Raziel as he handed
the blade to Kain.
“Why are you giving me back my sword?” Asked a bewildered Kain
“I have seen our pasts, and your future. I am not your enemy,
you must return to Nosgoth, and I shall help you in that endeavour” Said
the fallen warrior.
Kain and Raziel both looked at the mansion, and Kain noticed the plaque
at the entrance. He had trouble reading it, for it was not in Nosothicka.
However, Raziel was able to read it. “It read, Xavier’s school for gifted
youngsters” he said.
“How can you read this strange text?” asked Kain.
“For I have been to this evil realm before, and I have seen its evil.”
“Very well….if evil lurks in this place, we shall seek it out.”
The two walked towards the front door, and it was opened by a man in
his thirties, wearing a black leather uniform, and red sunglasses.
“May I help you?” asked Cyclops
“So polite these mortals are….they must not know their fate.” Said
Kain
He proceeded to run the man through with the reaver, the feel and weight
of his sword feeling good in his claws. Kain heard screams from inside
the mansion, and saw several children looking on in shock at the murder
of Cyclops, who still hung limply on the end of the blade, occasionally
giving a jerk, but this was of no importance to Kain, who had little interest
with the children.
“Raziel, deal with those whining brats” he ordered
“It will be my pleasure Kain.” Said Raziel, who proceeded to advance
towards the children, and slowly followed them up the stairs, where they
ran and screamed for help. Kain decided to look for more challenging
humans to kill.
“Would you be looking for a fight, murderer?” asked a black woman,
wearing a similar uniform to Cyclops.
“I must warn you, that I have killed much bigger, and stronger men
than you, with very little effort.” Warned Kain.
“You may find me a worthy challenge” said Storm as she rose off of
the ground, with sparks of electricity flying from her fingertips….but
Kain quickly seized hold of her throat with telekinesis, and snapped her
neck like a twig.
“I doubt that” he said, while stepping over her corpse.
Raziel impaled another child on his blade, and pulled down the scarf
to feed, when he heard two quick noises, which were unmistakably the sound
made by blades unsheathing. He turned around, expecting to see armed
guards, but instead he saw a man, not a hair taller than himself, with
three claws extending from each fist.
Wolverine snarled at him, while Raziel activated the reaver, confident
in his abilities. He was not expecting the man to leap like an animal,
slashing Raziel’s face, and driving his claws through what was left of
his spine. Raziel fell, and shifted back to the spectral realm while
Wolverine ran down the stairs, passing the corpses of Cyclops and Storm.
He heard a horrible noise from the next room, a mix of a strangled scream,
and someone drinking. He kicked open the door to view the horror
inside. He saw Kain, covered in blood, and holding up the dead body
of Rogue, who had a large hole in her throat, and Kain’s mouth to the wound,
revelling in the blood which flowed from her convulsing body. Wolverine
smelt a second body, and looked to the other wall, and saw Iceman pinned
to the wall by the neck by the soul reaver. H leapt at Kain, and
drove his claws through his shoulders, pinning the monster to the wall.
Wolverine snarled as Kain dropped Rogue to the floor, and smiled at him.
“Is that the best you can do?” he taunted, and used telekinesis to
pull Logan’s claws from his shoulders, and held him up, as if he was crucified
to the air. Wolverine knew what Kain was going to do. He felt
the claws bury themselves in his stomach before he even knew that his hands
were moving. Kain dropped Wolverine to the ground, and removed the
reaver from Iceman’s corpse, letting it fall to the floor, leaving a trail
of blood down the wall. Kain channelled power through the reaver,
and hit Logan with it as hard as he could, casting the spell which makes
people explode when touched with it. Wolverine’s skin, organs and
blood covered the room, but his skeleton stayed active, as if nothing had
happened. Kain was puzzled by this event, but simply placed the reaver
over his shoulder, and grabbed Wolverine’s head, and twisted, removing
the head from the body. Even this did not kill him. However,
Raziel had used the corpse of Cyclops to re-enter the Material Realm, and
entered the room, running the wraith blade through the chest of the metal
skeleton. It finally dropped to the floor, as every good corpse should.
They made their way further through the mansion, Raziel quickly making
short work of a man made entirely of metal, the wraith blade running through
him easily. A Cajun attempted to hit them with many different playing
cards which glowed with energy. Kain simply caught them, turned them
around, and released them all into the face of Gambit, leaving a bloody
stump where his head used to be.
A woman wearing purple was the next to try and stop them, producing
a knife the same colour as her clothes, but which appeared to be a wraith
blade, similar to Raziel’s. “I shall handle this one Kain” he said.
He looked at Psylocke’s psychic knife, and couldn’t help but smile.
“I hate to be the bearer of bad news….but I’m afraid my blade is quite
bigger than yours”. He activated the wraith blade just as she was rushing
towards him, and he let her own momentum impale her upon it. She
dropped to the floor, and a great black mass escaped her head, and entered
Raziel’s just as Kain was not looking. The Shadow King had found
a new home upon his escape. Raziel did not yet know the corruption
his new inhabitant would cause, and for now, kept control of his body easily.
Kain continued down the hallway, and came across a room with a red-headed
woman sitting calmly on the bed.
“Do you know the chaos in the rest of this place? If so, why
do you sit calmly, have you accepted your fate?” asked Kain.
“No, I have been waiting for you” Said Phoenix, unleashing a
huge fireball at Kain, who shifted into mist form, and allowed the fire
to pass through without damage.
“You will not find me as easy to kill as the others you have doubtlessly
killed” he told her. She stood up, and Kain felt himself being grasped
by telekinesis, and he was thrown out the window. He staggered out,
getting decent distance between himself and Phoenix. The entire side
of the house exploded, sending bricks and glass everywhere as Phoenix rose
from the mansion.
“Ok…it seems that I may have a challenge in this realm after all” said
Kain.
Suddenly, the portal opened behind him, and Janos Audron and Vorador
came through the twisted light.
“What in hell are you two doing here?” asked Kain.
“We have seen what these people do. They follow you through,
and this phoenix tears Nosgoth apart.” Said Janos, who unsheathed a sword
and flew up towards Phoenix and attempted to engage her in the air.
They clashed twice, then Phoenix hit Janos with a fireball in the chest,
sending him crashing to the ground. Vorador unsheathed his sword
and shouted a challenge to the Phoenix, who seemed to take offence at his
words. Kain reckoned it took Vorador twenty seconds to turn to ashes,
but he could not see through the fire and flames. His ashes lay on
the ground, as well as the Bone Sword. Kain picked it up and threw
it at the fiery killer, hitting her in the shoulder causing her to lose
concentration and fall to the ground. Kain ran towards her, eager
to press the advantage, firing a telekinetic projectile at her, which knocked
her off balance, allowing Kain to score a fatal blow into her stomach.
Kain removed the reaver, and watched as the blood of the Phoenix poured
onto the ground. He walked back into the mansion, and saw Raziel
picking off more children as he went through the rooms. Kain eventually
came to the last of the rooms and entered. He saw a bald man in a
wheelchair. He felt a surge of pain in his head, which he had felt
only once before, when the vampire Marcus had attempted to gain entry to
his mind, and failed.
The man turned to stare at Kain with fear in his old eyes.
“What manner of creatures have you been practicing on? Dull mortal
fools, with their minds full of commerce and dung? My mind is far
too strong for your powers.” Gloated Kain, as he lifted the old man out
of the chair with telekinesis, and smashed him against the ceiling, then
let him fall to the floor with a dull thud. Kain lifted the wheel
chair up the same way he had done with Xavier. He looked down at
the cripple, who lay on the ground, attempting to move. He smiled,
and said “You think your powers are great? That alone proves that
you have never been in the presence of Lord Kain”. He turned and
left, slamming the door shut behind him. Xavier thought he was safe,
and then Kain allowed the wheel chair to drop.
Kain, Raziel and Janos entered the portal and went their separate ways
upon their return.
The End………..
Raziel returned to the spectral realm and walked calmly towards
the elder God, “Ahh, my fledging Angel of Death returns” said the Elder,
little did the Elder know, that it was not Raziel standing in front of
him. The Shadow King smiled.
