"This is a fanfic created by me, nrn_gamer@yahoo.com (Nathaniel Richardson) to depict what COULD happen for the next Soul Reaver game. All names and like-nesses are trademarks of Crystal Dynamics, and Eidos. Thanks to them for making these great games. Please leave any feedback. Also this story takes place in the form of a game, with parts user based, so you must use your own imagination. This now has Part I, II, and III."

Chapter I: Reborn into Darkness
As I awoke from the pain that had wrought itself out in my chest, my mind was reeling with the revelation that I had discovered. I was, the Soul Reaver. The thousands of years that Kain rules ruthfully over Nosgoth was all my doing. But other things still did not make any sense to me. How could I be the Soul Reaver if it was born thousands of years before I even existed? The winged race that I saw on the walls deep under Nosgoth were depicted as beings of the Soul Reaver. And even the mazes all revolved around the Soul Reaver, but how and why? The beings on the walls had features that were such as my own, but no one knows the true origins except for one, the last guardian, Janos Audron, who is now dead by my own hands. There is only one way to stop this insanity once and for all, and that is to find the truth. I will use Mobieus’ times streaming device and go back to before my Sarafan self killed Janos, I will once and for all know the truth behind the Soul Reaver, and the Pillars of Nosgoth. *** Raziel leaves from the Sarafan stronghold’s main chamber to Mobieus’s device on his entrance to the chamber one of the time streaming demons appears out of thin air.*** Vile creature why do you continue to per-sue me. You cannot change the past nor the future Raziel, your place in history is as its catalyst, you are but a pawn for us to use at our will. I am no ones pawn, I have my own free will, and will not be constrewed into doing what you will for me. You can not succeed in this Raziel, we will stop you, and history will remain. (creature vanishes) The vile creature believed that I was nothing more then a mere pawn
in history. Where this creature had come from I was still unsure, but how
did all of this tie into the Soul Reaver and the winged race? These were
the questions, I still had no answers to.
Chapter II: Janos Audron.
**Raziel traverses Nosgoth to the keep of Janos Audron** Janos: Ah, Raziel, so pleasant to see you again. Raziel: Again? Isn’t this the first time we have crossed paths? Janos: Of course it is Raziel, but this is always the point where our paths cross. The question is, why? Raziel: I have questions that only you may answer. Janos: Questions about the past? Raziel: Yes. Janos: Shouldn’t you be asking questions about the future instead? Raziel: I know already of Nosgoth’s future. I seek answers… Janos: You know not what you seek. The future you once knew no longer exists and Kain, your once sworn enemy is dead, killed by William the Just 300 years from now. As these words came from his mouth, I realized what a mistake was made when I was allowed to live. The whole flow of the history itself had been changed. Kain, the marauder of the future never had the empowered Soul Reaver, and was slain by William the Just, restoring the pillars of Nosgoth. Janos: I see now you realize your actions, you my friend shall never exist if you return to Nosgoth’s future. You shall be erased from history all together, and few shall remember that you ever existed. Janos’s words echoed in my mind. I shall never exist. Kain hadn’t counted on this as he ripped the Soul Reaver from my chest, and now he shall be no more. Raziel: You knew about this, why did you not tell me? Janos: There was no need to, this is the way it was meant to happen… **Raziel graps Janos by the neck** Raziel: You will die for this Janos, then the future shall be changed because I would have never touched the Soul Reaver again in the first place! Janos: Raziel stop! There is still another way to save yourself. **Raziel abruptly drops Janos** Raziel: Another edge to the coin?
Chapter III: The Second Edge
Janos: Yes, and the only way to save yourself and Nosgoth lies in this alternative measure. Raziel: I am listening. Janos: Centuries before the rule of man plagued Nosgoth, there was a race of blue winged creatures. These creatures created the Soul Reaver as a guardian of such and worshiped it as an idol. Raziel: I have seen these creatures depicted in hieroglyphs deep under Nosgoth. But why do they matter any? Janos: They matter because not only did they create the Soul Reaver, but they also created a counter measure against it, known as the Nexxus stone. This stone nullified any vampiric powers, including the power of the Soul Reaver. This stone existed in your previous timeline, some 1600 years before you became what you are today. I knew of the stone. It is what had caused the all powerful Kain to be defeated at the hands of the Sarafan. But I knew that this stone had already been lost forever in the time that I was from, and did not think it could exist elsewhere. Raziel: The stone no longer exists, you are feeding me fairy tales old vampire. Janos: Ah, but it does and always will! Have you forgotten about the Time Streaming device already? Through all the commotion, I had. I could use the time machine to travel into Nosgoth’s past and determine what my heritage meant. Janos: If you can obtain the stone, history itself shall be undone. When the Soul Reaver tries to absorb the essence of the Nexxus stone, it will no longer need your soul, and shall be forever satisfied. Raziel: So history will be undone again, and Kains reign of power will return? Janos: Perhaps, but history will remain unwritten. The opposites will attract and create a catalyst of sorts, the future is up to you Raziel. With these words from Janos fres in my head, I decided to obtain the Nexxus stone. And with it, I will finally know… my heritage. To be continued. |
