An Eternity of Damnation

Prologue

I look behind me as I witness the amazing, yet chaotic hell that I caused, all by casting the Nexus Stone into the fiery depths of the demonic dimension that the Hylden will now be calling home for the rest of eternity, something that will bring relief amongst humans and vampires alike. And of course, the Sarafan and their Lord have been forced to crumble down into a pile of volcanic rubble at my feet. The feet of the true ruler of Nosgoth and all who dwell in it.

As I envision how I plan on making Nosgoth mine once again, a tremor beneath my feet brings me back to reality, shaking away the mist of my plans and dreams. I look up, scowling at the lime green ceiling, I see the symbolic stones begin to tremble and fall, crashing down upon the central metal platform that I, and the former Sarafan Lord, stand upon, causing this to become a real life or death matter. I look around at the slumped corpse of the Sarafan Lord, whom I slayed with the Soul Reaver, before jumping back to the safety of the entrance to the Hylden Gate.

As I walk away, my plans once again at the forefront of my mind, I find my thoughts travelling back to Umah, and how things could have been different for us. But she betrayed me, suffering the consequences of a traitor as punishment. If only she had trusted me. I find myself thinking upon one sentence she spoke to me moments before she disappeared when she branded herself traitor; "I wish it had been otherwise for us, Kain." What did she mean by those words. Did she feel about me as I felt about her? But pondering about what could've been are thoughts for more suited time and place.

I also find myself thinking of Janos, the legendary vampire who had his heart torn from his chest, yet he managed to live on through sheer determination, something I could never imagine another vampire doing. Yet, because of this determination, he found himself being the life source of The Device, belittling him to nothing more than a foul beast. This is what makes me believe that a vampire looking out for anyone but himself is a fool. Nothing good comes out of watching somebody else's back; especially if you are unsure if they have yours in return.

I glance and look over my shoulder one last time, just to see the destruction of the Hylden gate for good. Glad with what I have accomplished after all my efforts, I look at the Soul Reaver in my hands, tracing the outline of its perfectly crafted blade, a sigh of relief escaping my lips as I carefully slide the blade into the harness on my back, the Soul Reaver now back in the possession of its rightful owner.

I climb up the rubble that the explosion caused, and stand upon the crumbled remains of the roof of the Hylden City, feeling like a God above all he has created; whether it be a utopia or a distopia. As I stand there, I envision once again how my Nosgoth will look, how it will all be set out. And this time, vampires will reclaim there place amongst the Gods, and make their mark on history for the rest of time.
