Part 3
The War

The whole Army marched south. We stopped at every city or little town to strengthen us and to kill the people. Ziegsturhl, Freeport… only a few names of the countless mass of villages! Kain said we must prepare ourselves for the great fight. We knew what he meant: the fight against the armies of Lord Sarafan. They would wait for us in Meridian. Ironic! In life I always wanted to come to the capital of Nosgoth! The biggest city next to Willendorf or Avernus! But I never thought I would try to conquer it!
Out of the Forrest we could see the Keep of the Sarafan; a massive Stronghold, built out of bricks and granite to give the protectors of Nosgoth cover. An impressive Building! And somewhere in it, the dark Lord of the Sarafan awaits his last battle!
Kain spoke to his Generals a last time. They discuss the strategy but Kain preferred a direct Front-Attack! He had waited nearly 200 Years for this moment and he was willed to annihilate the Sarafan Lord!
We marched towards the Keep! We saw that the Sarafan and this Yellow-Parts Knights already went into position; they awaited us. Kain who walked at the front stopped. And looked to the Sarafan Lord who stood on a higher position to watch over the Battlefield.
They stared at each other. Although it was only seconds it felt like hours. Kain was the first moving. With a loud battlecry he pointed with the Soul Reaver forward and the first row of Vampires jumped to the Sarafan. The Lord remained on his hill and shot Energy-bolts at the Vampires which melt in at once. Kain, his Generals and I ran to the field, also. The Sarafan fought well as did the Yellow-Parts Knights… but not good enough. As our journey to the south I drank the blood of many Warriors and their abilities and strength flow in my veins. I could kill them easily. Kain swung the Soul Reaver and killed three Sarafan with one Strike! The Knights were better and dangerous foes. One of them came near me and hit me with the hilt of his massive axe. As I came on feet he wanted to cut my head off but I dodged the strike. The Knight was unprotected now. I took the choice and rammed my hand into his flank. He sighed with pain and spit a lot of blood. I pulled my hand out of his dead body and he fell to ground. As I looked up I saw Kain and the Sarafan Lord fighting. Kain hit him with the Soul Reaver and I thought this was the end… no one that I knew could survive a strike from the Soul Reaver. But the Sarafan Lord didn’t even get a tiny scar. I was so surprised that I didn’t realise that there were a Sarafan behind me. He started an attack. Now I saw him and turned around blocking his strike. I held his hand and removed his sword from his hands and rammed it into his head. I looked to Kain again. This time I saw the Sarafan Lord swinging his sword. He broke through Kain’s defence and hit him with his sword at Kain’s breast. I cried out calling his name while he fell down the hill. His sword was now in the hands of the Sarafan Lord and it was clear: we had lost! The remaining Vampires quickly collected Kain’s lifeless body and carried it away. Some Sarafan were hunting down the Vampires but they were too fast. For a last time I gazed over the Battlefield to the Sarafan Lord. He wield the Soul Reaver in his hands and with a loud laughter he triumphed! He had won this Battle! Now Nosgoth lay at his feet.
I turned around and fled. The Sarafan didn’t even try to follow me; they knew that when the time comes they would have me. But I intend not to get caught! I got to the Vampires and together we ran away from the field.
“We have lost! But what to do now? Where can we go?” I asked.
They looked at each other. As I they didn’t know what was the next move. In Kain’s plan there was no place for the possibility of being defeated and his Generals have mysteriously disappeared!
“Let us go to the retreat of the Vampires! Kain’s old bastion will be surely found but in the swamp they wouldn’t dare to follow us!”.
I knew what this Vampire meant… to Vorador and his mansion!
