“Is it me or is the street awfully empty? Normally Sarafan are walking through the streets, in their shiny armour. Where did they go to? Did you see that? Over there! Let’s take a look…”
My kind & dexterous brother Caef and I approached the ceremony-building. The snow cracked beneath our feet. When we came near we saw only the legendary object that had always been there. With a glass floor and a twisting piece coming out of the object with a button, which only a person with 3 demonic fingers could activate… This was probably one of those relics of that vampire that lives in the mountains.
“No one here…” I whispered. Why was I whispering? If no one was here, then I shouldn’t be scared! The light dimmed.
“W-was there just light coming out of t-that thing??” Caef stuttered in fear. “We should find a Sarafan for protection, if all the strange metallic objects begin to light up, then we should leave…” We ran to the gate, but no one seemed to be there. Why was Ushtenheim so empty? I had never seen this situation before…
“I don’t think we should stay here.” Caef suggested. “The Sarafan are probably in the mountains. I don’t know where the other citizens are, but we probably aren’t safe here in Ushtenheim, so let’s go.”
We went away from Ushtenheim. It was risky to go into the mountains, but the city we left was probably far more dangerous. If there indeed had been a vampire attack, then the vampire might still be around. It became colder. The icy wind was like a knife that cut through the sky. I heard a flapping sound. I looked behind me, nothing.
“Did you hear something?” I couldn’t prevent myself from saying it.
“Well, not really…” Caef responded. We began to move quicker. There was a cliff which blocked our way. Beneath us were a few Sarafan warriors and a priestess. Thank the gods that they were here.
The sound of cracking snow, a shout and the flapping sound came right from behind me. A blue winged creature took Caef. It bit in his neck and flew towards me. I jumped from the cliff, trying to land on a large pile of snow. I succeeded and landed safely. The creature was nowhere to be seen. Caef lay at the foot of the very rock we were standing on top of a few seconds earlier. I got up and walked towards him. Slowly. Scared of the truth. In fear and agony. Had he survived? He didn’t move, didn’t breath either. I stood still. Sadness overwhelmed me. A strike right into my heart. He looked pale. He had blood on the place it was sucked from his body. His eyes still open, still looking in fear. A tear rolled over my cheek.
A Sarafan neared me. “I’m so sorry for you.” He said. “Those vampires ruin all our lives.”
I didn’t care. At that moment I turned grief into hatred. I shouldn’t abandon hope. I needed vengeance. Destroy the vampire that had killed my brother. I took up a spear that lay near me, climbed up the rocks and went to the gate.
More Sarafan entered that afternoon. I would stay here as long as I could. If that vampire would come back then I will be its end. It seemed as if I had been here for hours. Though the sun didn’t move very far. I couldn’t have been waiting very long. Well, it seemed there was no point here. I would go back here tomorrow. There was no point in looking for the vampire while he had his blood a few hours ago.
I walked down the street. Then suddenly I saw an enormous creature rising out of flames. He was spitting flames at a few Sarafan warriors. Behind me a demon and the vampire fighting! The vampire destroyed the demon with one powerful hit of his flaming sword. Then he noticed me. A blue glow came out of his white eyes. His wings were ripped apart. I could feel the vampire’s hatred. My hatred couldn’t match his. I trebled in fear while he lifted his flaming sword. He struck me down. I was at his mercy. Then I heard someone shouting.
“The vampire is dead! His heart has been ripped out by our Sarafan brothers!”
My nemesis became even more furious. He took the cloth, which covered his mouth. He had no lower jaw! I felt something more important than my blood dragging towards him. Then, I realised, this has never been the vampire that killed my brother! I had fought him for nothing. The vampire that killed my brother had already been killed by the Sarafan. He had slipped from my grasp! Then the blue creature devoured my soul… |
