Chapter 2: Battle For the Seer
|
Lucan raised from his chamber, he had gotten very little sleep that night and had to be up and gone before anyone noticed. Janos thought it was better if none of the others in the aerie knew of his missions until they were complete. He opened the window in his chamber, frozen air rushed in and Lucans lips turned a darker blue, as he through himself out of the windows he felt adrenaline pump through his body. This was how got his frills in life, falling from an open window an praying his wings could carry him away before him smashed every bone on the frozen lake below. He opened his wings; the feathers caught the air as he glided upwards. He had survived another take off. The air rippled through his long hair, as he looked down he could see humans hunting deer, humans were an interesting species, they were not very intelligent, yet they could hunt, communicate with each other and they seemed to fear blue wings. The blue wings had only noticed the humans several years ago there were a couple hiding in caves here and there and now they had multiplied into hundreds spread out all around Nosgoth. It was amazing how this new creature had thrived so quickly; maybe later on they could become allies. In the distance there were two blue wings hovering just above the ground, waiting for Lucan, he brought his legs up and braced for landing. The two others greeted him with silent nods. “Glad to see you made it Lucan.” One said. The two blue wings were both about Janos’s height, there wings folded in behind there backs and both had weapons, the one who had spoken to Lucan, had a large sword, Lucan knew him as Rydlee, from madam Orjina’s camp. Lucan noticed that Rydlee’s sword seemed to have a magical glow, he realized that this was no ordinary, sword it was the Flame sword. Rydlee was famous for his custom enchanted blades. The flame sword had the power to instantly incinerate any enemy of Rydlee’s choice. The other, who had many scars covering his body, he had no ears and his wings were in a terrible yet functioning state, Lucan took no notice of this, he had seen many injuries during the war. He had no weapon he must be the magic specialist that Janos had spoken of. “Yes. I am here, now let’s get on with this before the hylden finds out we’re here.” Lucan did not believe that bringing the Seer into this would help she was not a blue wing, and this was their war, but Janos said to collect her and he was always loyal to Janos’s wishes. “Lucan, This is Blakmund, he has just returned from the great southern lake, there has been a great victory there!” Rydlee did not need to say any more, Lucan recognized the name. It was rumored that a great warrior called Blakmund had been captured by the Hylden. He had been tortured endlessly, his skin burnt, wings ripped and his ears sliced of by a white-hot sword. He was tortured for hours, the Hylden wanted the location of Janos’ aerie, he never gave the location but and the Hylden left him to die, luckily he was found and recovered his strength and has become a fierce, unforgiving fighter in the war. They left the place of meeting and headed for the tunnels that circulated underneath Meridian. The Seer’s hut was located in the canyons, on the other side of Meridian, but it was to dangerous to travel in the open around this area, for most of the Hylden armies gavered and were trained in Meridian. The tunnels they were using lead straight under the city, the tunnels were barely large enough for the Blue Wings so the Hylden would rarely use them, the only trouble they had ran into before down here were the odd criminal or outcast. There were no lights in the tunnels, this did not matter Rydlee’s flame sword gave of an unnatural orange glow and this was enough to see. “Wings!” The tunnel filled with the sound of footsteps and cries for battle. The hylden had found them. “Garrrrr!” There were about five of them, but not of the hylden army, just a gang of criminals looking for some action, Lucan would not deny them of this. “Vae Victus!” Lucan drew his sword and raised it toward his enemy, Rydlee’s eyes began to glow a fiery red as his sword ignited in full power, while Blakmund stood still with his eyes closed but seemed to be holding something in his hands. The approaching hylden only carried small swords but as the attacked they proved to be worthy of a demonstration, Lucan swung, his sword slicing through a hylden’s stomach, green blood spilled out as the hylden dropped to the floor. Rydlee had one impaled on his sword, the stench of burning flesh filled the room as the hylden become a walking, screaming bon fire, until he ended up as a pile of ash on the floor. Blakmund still did not do anything, the next hylden fighting Lucan stabbed him in the shoulder with his blade, Rydlee spun around taking the hylden’s head off with the flame sword, Lucan pushed the body off himself. The remaining to hylden looked at each other with fear and took off running. “Their get back up, we can’t let them get away.” Lucan informed the others but he could not run after the he was bleeding heavily. Blakmund opened his eyes and with a quick movement through the two objects he was holding, in the direction of the fleeing hylden. As the hit the backs of the two hylden, they both seemed to be sucked up, into there own bodies from the inside, until there was a slash of blood covering the area. “You know, how to, conjure implosion?” Lucan felt faint due to the lose of blood. Blakmund approached him and placed his hand on Lucan’s wound, there was a blue glow in Blakmund’s hand, as he seems to be whispering under his breath. The blood dried, and disappeared as Lucan’s shoulder healed in seconds, “Come on we must keep moving.” “Lucan, were here, Lucan?” Lucan could barely hear want Blakmund said. All that Lucan could see blurred, the landscape darkened and the ground stained with blood. “Lucan? Can you hear me?” Lucan’s vision begun to settle, he was not at the tunnel under meridian. He was in a battlefield, his hands; stained with blood, the moon an angry red and dead blue wings every where. The Hylden were charging slaughtering Lucan’s friends and family, the sun began to rise, it was hotter than ever but snow still settled on the ground. Lucan could feel the affect of this sun on his skin and it begun to burn with white-hot fire, he could smell his hair smoldering, his ears crisped and deadly flames engulfed his body. Lucan’s last sight was a Hylden laughing at him “Enjoy our curse, blood beast!” The small of incense penetrated his nostril, smoke, burning and fire! “I still burn, why can’t I just die? Why this torture?” “Calm child, you are safe” the woman voice sounded young but full of wisdom. Lucan felt good, some one alive, after such death and blood shred, “and you burning, but some thing did happen to you out there,” “I’m alive? But how? The sun, so strong I died, whats happening?”
