This section
is meant to teach those interested in Nosgoth's past, whom have not before
experienced Blood Omen. Or to also clear-up any confusions one may have
who has. Just consider this a "spoiler warning".
Vorador
Vorador
was once
the oldest, wisest, and most powerful vampire in Nosgoth. He was
also very proud. During the “Vampire Purges” that had occurred 5,000
years before Kain was even born, the Sarafan brutally murdered all of Vorador’s
friends, lovers, and children. He fought valiantly to end the “Purges”
by killing four guardians of the Circle, and defeating Malek, the leader
of the Sarafan.
Unfortunately,
by that time
it was too late for Vorador to save his loved ones. Out of guilt, rage,
and despair, Vorador spent the next several millennia locked away in his
isolated mansion. He went out only to feed, and surrounded his mansion
with hazards to ensure that he would be left alone. The tragedies
he had endured taught Vorador to despise all of humanity, while valuing
the lives of his fellow vampires above all else. He was always willing
to provide younger vampires with sanctuary, nourishment, or protection.
Kain sought Vorador’s assistance in defeating Malek once and for all.
Although Kain originally feared becoming as inhuman as Vorador, the elder
vampire eventually earned Kain’s respect as a mentor.
Vorador’s
death was arguably
the greatest tragedy to ever befall Nosgoth. The vampire hunters’
guild captured Vorador along with the other few surviving vampires, and
murdered them all in a final massacre at the city of Stahlberg. Vorador
watched helplessly as the other vampires he had protected were decapitated
one by one in front of a cheering crowd of cowardly humans. Vorador’s
death was their grand finale. And after watching the last of his people
die, Vorador had no will left in him to live.
Hash’ak’gik
Also
known as “The Unspoken” and “The Dark Entity,” Hash’ak’gik was a demonic
being who was once worshipped as a god by a cult in Avernus. At his
demand, his followers sacrificed their firstborn children at his alter
so that "he may take nourishment from them." Hash also played a very
important role in bringing The Circle of Nine to ruin. He possessed Mortanius,
(the guardian of Death) and took partial control of his mind. Mortanius
later killed Arial, (the guardian of Balance) under Hash’s influence, thereby
officially destroying the balance of Nosgoth. Although his motives
were never clear, Hash seemed to regard the lives of others as no more
than a game. At the end of Blood Omen, Kain faced and supposedly
defeated Hash.
William the Just/
The Nemesis
William
“the Just” was once
a kind and prosperous human king. However, under the manipulation
of Moebius, (guardian of Time) William was urged to become a power-hungry
tyrant, obsessed with conquest. He organized the most powerful army
in Nosgoth, and earned a new title: “The Nemesis.” The Legions
of the Nemesis destroyed everything that lay in its path, as it continued
to expand the borders of William’s domain. Once the Nemesis had laid
waste to Stahlberg, the city of Willendorf became its next target.
Kain rallied “The Army of Hope” in an attempt to drive back the invading
army. When that plan failed, Kain was sent fifty years into the past,
to the time when William was still loved by his people. It was then
that Kain killed William, and took the king’s blood to restore his own
strength. William’s people never knew that their beloved king would
have one day slaughtered them all. They found his drained corpse,
and took their vengeance upon all Nosgothic vampires. They joyfully
succeeded in murdering all but Kain. Elzevir
the Dollmaker
Elzevir
was an odd, little, old man
who lived as a hermit and collected souls. This he did by imprisoning
his victims’ souls in the dolls he had made to represent them. Elzevir’s
most prized possession was the soul of King Ottmar’s daughter. His
motives for taking her soul were never quite understood. However,
the grief his actions caused Ottmar brought his entire kingdom to its knees.
Perhaps the little man derived pleasure from having such ‘power.’
King Ottmar
Ottmar
was ruler of Willendorf,
a huge city rich in natural resources, and protected by an army that’s
strength was second only to the Legions of the Nemesis. His down-to-earth
and compassionate personality made him generally well liked by his people.
But the princess fell into a comma-like state at a rather inconvenient
time when Elzevir stole the girl’s soul. While the Legions of the
Nemesis were drawing closer to Willendorf, Ottmar was rendered completely
useless by distraught concern for his daughter. He offered his kingdom
to any warrior who could restore the princess to her former self…even if
that warrior happened to be a vampire.
Kain
slew Elzevir and returned
to Ottmar with the doll containing his daughter’s soul, thereby earning
the king’s gratitude. At Kain’s request, Ottmar then led his troops
against the Nemesis. Unfortunately, his army was no match for the
Legions of the Nemesis, and Ottmar died in a very bloody battle.
